Default engine rebuild

Hi All

Funds are very tight at the mo so would you use low milage second hand rods and pistons in a engine rebuild?
does anyone have anything to sell?

Thanks
Donie

there’s always stuff on ebay used and re built engines , but again how good is it ? plus second hand parts , it maybe fine but still taking a bit of a chance , then if it does go wrong you end up paying twice , the engine will probably need some machining heads skimmed a re bore , in the big picture new forged pistons are not that much then it’s peace of mind , always do head studs not bolts 👍

From the videos ive watched on rebuilds, and i admit im no expert in this area things like pistons are left in a temperature controlled room and when they are eventually fitted they bed perfectly to that particular cylinder, the tolerances even tho very tiny i guess are different on every engine so what worked fine in one engine may not work fine in another due to the different micro differences. As i say im no expert on this, im sure someone will come along with better knowledge than me on the subject.

Rebuilding an EJ and making it reliable seems to be harder than a twenty year old Mike Tyson! I've seen many get rebuilt only to fail again within a couple of thousand miles! I speak from experience when I say, do it properly and you'll do it once. There's only a few places I'd trust to build me a motor nowadays and I wouldn't expect much change from £6k.

2 ways too go about it pal.

If funds are an issue get an sti engine that's complete and throw that in but make sure you can see the engine running before hand

2nd option get a forged lump but get brand new everything. A rebuilt engine is only as strong as its weakest point so if the rod is weaker due too being 2nd hand with unknown history then its bye bye engine and hello bank manager

There's nowt wrong with second hand components as long as they measure up ok.
speak to ASperformance, alyn can source pretty much anything you need at a very reasonable price.

I'm a strong belive in buying new over used as someone's mint is completely different to your expectations and sadly there are many out there who will say its mint for a fast buck.
for that reason I'd repair my blown one then replace for second hand.
