Importing an STI but can't decide which model!
Hi guys,
Looking to get my first STI, currently using torque GT to help me source one but I'm really struggling between two models.
First is the JDM prodrive bugeye, I know they're not to everyone's taste but my favourite of the new gen. Plus the prodrive has the ej207 and the prodrive styling.
But for the same price I could get a JDM hatch STI. I've always fancied one and almost bought a new UK one in 2009 but opted for a focus RS instead. I don't think I could stretch to a spec c so would just have to be a standard STI.
I think the bugeye could be more desirable as it's a ltd edition but not the most popular STI but could end up like 996 Porsches.
It's not going to be a daily as I mainly use my motorcycle so that's not an issue.
Any opinions or anyone who's tried both I would love to hear your thoughts.

I'd a Prodrive bugeye uk and loved it. I had a uk hatch (330s) loved it too but it just didn't have that scooby sound.
As your bugeye would be JDM it wont sound like the uk anyway so personally I'd go for the Hatchback. Though I'm not sure I'd pay the premium of an import, there's probably better other models of cars for the money these days.

Hmm, my standard JDM bug STI doesn’t have the strong sounding UK Subaru burble, it’s there but very muted. It has been a while since I heard any standard exhaust on a UK Subaru though, I was told mine had equal length headers as standard along with a single scroll turbo.

However going down the rabbit hole it appears I should have unequal length headers, single scroll, 280bhp.

it has a distinct sound on a cold start fast idle, after that any burble sound is fairly muted and has to be listened for at low speed with the window open. Car is running the standard STI exhaust. Really tempted to switch the back box and get more burble provided the headers haven’t been swapped in the past

over the years Subaru have gradually made the single scroll exhaust manifolds 'more equal' (limited by the single scroll sump shape)........you still get the off beat sound but isn't a obvious as the original Legacy / Impreza cars

I know it's not on your list but there's a decent looking Spec C hawk going through in a couple of days.
Might be worth asking torque to get it checked?

Bit of an update, I'm going for a hatch now, hopefully a 20th anniversary if I can find a decent one.
I did find one but is 75k miles, what like are the jdm engines once the miles start edging towards 100k?
