Decision time - What Scooby ?
Hi All,
Sorry to plug up the forum with yet another 'Which one' question but i'm truly stumped and am looking for opinions from you knowledgeable owners .
I'm in the market to buy a scoob and have a maximum budget of £7.5k
My choices are: ( although i'm sure some of you may have other suggestions)
1. 2003/2004 UK STI (blobeye) STANDARD
2. 2003/2004 UK STI (blobeye) PRODRIVE
3. 2003/2004 UK STI (blobeye) OTHER MODS/REMAPS
4. 2005/2006 UK WRX 2.5 ( hawkeye) - [don't shoot me if year is wrong]
5. 2003 JDM STI -
6. 2000//2001 P1
I called up for the TSL 333 STI on Autotrader in Newcastle but already sold -
Looking at examples around the 40-70k in terms of miles with FSH.
All the above seem to be available around the 8k ish mark so with offers taken for cash i think i can get in on budget give or take a couple of hundred quid.
Insurance not too much of an issue , 41 years old, Full no claims, garaged etc...(i'm paying £380 for my Group 16 Diesel Espace anyway) and i've checked for a standard UK STI and its only £15 more a year....
Also, whilst i'm on here any owners in Milton Keynes, any local meeets etc...
All help and advice - as usual, greatly appreciated...
Thanks John

Well I would remove the P1 from the list again, your better off with a type R for the money as most P1's in that bracket will be over 70k and they are not as mechanically good as the later cars and then the JDM STI (03 models) may be out of your price bracket to leaves you with the top 4 really, of which the STI is probably your best bet, but it just depends what you want to do with the car, for the family then the MY06 WRX is the better bet, for you then the STI will be

Thanks for the reply Tony...
Opinions seem to be limited on my thread/question, although i guess people are fed up with people saying ' which one, what now' etc...
Seen quite a few 03/53 STI UK models well within my budget, would prefer the JDM personally just becuase of more power and bigger spec but i'm keeping an open mind.
When you mention 06 WRX, am i assuming its a 2.5?
How does the later WRX 2.5 compare to an 03 STI?
As you point out i'm a family man too, wife, 2 kids etc,...still have to use the car for ;
Work, Camping (!top box required!!), Annual Lemans pilgrimage, booze runs to france and a weekly shop........

How do you feel about the bugeye newages?
If you don't mind the looks then I see no point spending more on a blobeye STI that doesn't have DCCD. 03/53 STI is no different in real world terms to an 02/52 bugeye.
With 7.5K I'd look for the nicest low mileage black bugeye Prodrive STI I could find. You may also get a JDM Prodrive Style which looks the same as our UK Prodrive but has JDM goodies and has an RA shell (roof vent)

Thanks EddScott...
As you rightly point out its the looks more than anything for me, the car itselef is as as good at the blobeye, but those bug eyes just don't do it for me... (apologies to all bug eyes owners - )
In terms of deals , what about this......seems ideal and i could spend a budget of £750 doing sensible mods?
silverlink specialist cars : SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0 WRX STi 2003
Scracth that , just called them and its a mistake ,they want a mad price of £10k!
>>Sulks and starts looking through pistonheads other add and autotrader :-( <<
