type r with 22b parts from new?
Hi All
I have a 1998 Type R, and I am the second owner, the previous owner imported it as brand new from Japan @ £38K in 1998, and totally original. I seem to have a few abnormalities with it? I had to have new rear discs and anti-roll bar bushes, after a lot of pain with ordering parts, discs from EBC and not fitting, I thought that maybe they were 1998 spec, as mine is right on the crossover month, but no success. After sending measurements to them it turns out that they are 22b discs, also same thing with roll bar bushes as rear bar is 22mm?
Also just to confuse things further, I have 22b style wheels, but in 16" x 7.5" made by BBS, the original owner said that the car came with them when delivered?
Any Ideas???

22b had a very specific rear disc with extra off-set that (to my knowledge) has never been made by any aftermarket manufacturer and indeed is no longer available from Subaru..........
the MY98-MY00 STi based Type-R and STi RA had a similar sized 290mm vented rear disc that is more easily available to suit the R180 HD diff arrangement they had
the new-age WRX cars had an outwardly dimensionally similar rear 290mm disc BUT only suited to the smaller R160 rear diff arrangement

22B rear arb is parts database listed as 20mm
What is your applied model code?? (from the VIN plate)
What do you mean by "mine is right on the crossover month"
Revisions (model year) have a three month crossover where they are built in tandem

as an aside if you go onto https://www.type-ra.com/ you will find lots of specific and correct information rather than the 'fairy stories' that you seem to have been told..........

As Alyn says , the 22B rear discs are different to a type R disc , and will not fit on a type R.
The drive flanges on a 22B have more offset which is how the fill the arches on a 22B , so the discs have more offset in the bell to accommodate , if you try and fit a 22B disc on a type R , the disc will hit the backplate before it fits to the drive flange , the diameter , thickness and handbrake size are the same for both discs though , and they use the same 2 pot calipers , type R calipers are black , 22B are red
Type R discs

You can see the differences in the top section of the discs
Cheers Ian

I don't sorry , it's like a unicorn , seen pictures but never seen one in the flesh lol , apparently they don't make them anymore
I'd be surprised if you did have them , they have wider drive flanges to bring the wheel out to fill the arches on a 22B , so fitting all this to a type R would bring the wheel out of the arch's ??
