Default Help needed with engine noise.

Hi guys switched my car on today and engine making a weird noise. Just wondered if anyone was familiar with this type of noise and know what's causing it? Any help appreciated. Had to put the link in because it wouldn't let me upload straight to the website

The engine is normal on tick over, normal when accelerating, all oil levels seem normal, there's no warning lights on dash. Someone suggested an alternator problem but I really have no clue. Hopefully the garage will know.

Could be a cambelt idler pulley / tensioner. Is the cambelt due?
You could take off the alternator belt first to outrule alternator pulley and PAS pulley....then A/C belt after that.

Very easy to do, loads of vids on YouTube how to take these 2 belts off one by one.

If the noise is still there after both belts removed, my money is on a cambelt idler.

Thanks for the advice, it looks like it's going to be a question of ruling things out until I get to the problem.

Cambelt was only recently done within the past 12 months, perhaps faulty parts were used?

If anyone comes along this noise in the future with their car it's the air con compression unit. Thought I would put this out there if it helps anyone

are you sure it’s the actual ac unit and not the bearing in the pulley for the belt drive , my ac unit was sounding bad i’m thinking oh hear we go ££££ and it was just the tensioner pulley 20£ later all done 👍

It could be, I took it to a garage and that's what they said it was maybe they wanted more money from me, perhaps a second opinion is in order.

i’m not saying the ac compressors don’t fail , but from the chap that services mine he has rarely seen any fail and most common failure is the pulley , it’s not that difficult to change the pulley either , if the pulley fails it can kill the car as it’s can disintegrate and take out the cam belt as it sits by the cam belt covers so i would get on sorting it out , import car parts normally have them in stock 👍

I had the same noise 2018 on a Recon unit €110 , just before it seized after 300 miles use,
my original unit had started to leak fluid , I wish now I'd had kept it for exchange/repair.
The market has a huge price span , if replacing these Id go for a ICP one next time.
