Default What temp is your heater on?

Bit of a dummy question guys. Whenever I’m driving, I tend to have my cabin temperature set to max even though it’s not switched on. Either that or it’s right at the middle. Now this might be daft, but I believe it helps keep the engine cool as I take heat away from the engine bay and I drive with the windows down anyway in the summer. What do you guys think?

I guess it’s ok to switch the AC on and have it on the coldest setting but wouldn’t that be taxing on the engine?

Let me know what you guys think. It’ll be interesting to hear your thoughts…

Why do you feel the need to do that? Yes aircon is more taxing on the car as is something extra for the engine to run. But it won't harm your engine. Just means engine has to move another pulley.

Just me being paranoid after having a rebuilt engine I guess. If it helps the engine, I’m all for it!

lol , it is a slightly strange question , if you have the ac on you have an extra fan blowing most of the time on the radiator ,if you boot it ac gets turned off , that does definitely reduce engine temperatures , no point at all driving around in a car with heater on hot all the time, i had the gauges in the pod , when the ac went on then a noticeable drop in oil temperature , if oil is cooling so will every thing else 👍

Unless you've an underlying problem just drive about nothing to worry you. If the engine gets too warm it will switch aircon fan automatically.

As above , i think from model to model it depends on if ac fan does come on , some fans it’s a single fan that turns on sometimes it’s a single fan with two speeds , but in effect if it’s not over heating don’t worry , on newer cars but maybe not all ,just a single fan comes on to cool the engine ,if it was getting too hot i would hope the second fan comes on but i’ve not had that happen before , if i was on a track day or after an spirited run i would put the ac on as on mine it turns on the second fan which appears to be solely for ac , on my fsti i’ve not had both fans come on with out the ac on even when it’s got hot , it appears to be ecu controlled , but the ac fan does help to cool things down 👍

If your that worried, look for more cooling options, like better fans or uprated radiator. Guessing its the 2.5?

FMIC is only going to help with ACT not ECT in actual fact a FMIC is only going to be detrimental to ECT.

I’d leave the setting to warmest temp but I wouldn’t actually switch on the heater fan as that stays off. So what I’m saying is, the vents are transferring out heat from the engine to the cabin, whereas if the temp was left on coldest, it would have to transfer heat from engine into cold air right? I don’t know

Aside from the power benefits, will this help cool the engine? Yep, 2.5

The water is going through your heater matrix all the time anyway.

In the hotter months I usually use the A/C on cold setting. But if I hit traffic I put the a/c button on regardless of being winter or summer. I see it as a switchable cooling fan, and you do see the shimmering heat bellowing out from the TMIC scoop. It's all about air movement at the end of the day. May not do a lot, but must do something.

My 2007 STI a/c only runs in 3 or 4 second bursts, switches off, then kicks on again and so on, I wish I could override this stupid feature, the cabin never really gets as cool as I'd like, not like my Passat lol.
I'm sure my 2.0 STI 54 plate a/c stayed on the whole time.

I'm on a standard TMIC, and I never boot if after traffic, the heat soak is insane I reckon. Even with the heat shields, the oil filter sits in a "Cage of death"

Well it would work

But on a sensible side there's plenty of engine cooling mods. Pointless putting heater on, because as soon as the engine gets to warm the fans will kick in. If there's a weak spot, I don't think the heater will do much.
