Default Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R v AD08RS

Hi all,

Can anyone say on a newage 2007 STi if the AD08 RS are any good? I see mixed reviews online, some say the AD08R was much better? 225 / 45 / R17. I think they changed from R to RS a while ago....

Gutted, but it's definitely the case that the Bridgestone Potenza RE070's are now a thing of the past. I've spoken to countless tyre places, Bridgestone, numerous direct suppliers, and all say the same.....gone for good. WHY?!!

I guess technology, tread patterns and compounds move on. My main concern is that I want something with a decent strong side wall. I'm no hoonigan by any means, I just want something decent that I can feel confident with.

Need more heat to work well , not so good for road in UK wheather, there is one company Zeknowa they use same tread and softer compounds like ad08r. Not sure they make 17"s. I had ad08r and went with f1 supersports -grip and cornering is better than ad08r plus approx 30 quid a corner cheaper.

RE 070's were great tyres, but count yourself lucky that you got to use them when they were about; the spec C hatch was built around them, but its 245 40 18 size was only available in Japan at about £245 a corner.

I’ve not tried the RS on a Subaru but have them on other cars and don’t rate them. Poor in cold temps and squeal a lot.

Tyre tech indeed moves on. The RE070 was decent in 2007 but modern products have surpassed it. The problem is that some of the best modern tyres like the PS4S and Goodyear Supersport are not available in 17”. If a stiff sidewall in 17” is a prerequisite then you have to go with a semi-slick like the PS Cup or R888R.

However I would be surprised if you were disappointed with a PS4 or Goodyear Asymmetric 5. Yes the sidewalls on these are softer than an RE070 but almost everyone gives these rave reviews.

If it’s for a road car that see occasional track use, go for the PS4.

It's looking like PS4.... good reviews from most people. Grip and braking seems very good indeed on a PS4. I'm still mentally scarred from how bad the Toyo Proxes TR1 were for sidewall stiffness. Yes, never great on a newage, and a poor choice, but it's killed my confidence in anything else except an RE070. Sad but true.

I've never before been in this situation, where a tyre I used for many years on my Hawk and Blob back in the day has been discontinued. Zero existing stock anywhere either, such a shame, end of an era in a way. RE070's were cheap too really. I always found them such a good value for money tyre, except in the snow, that was a different story lol - but totally expected!
