time for new tyres, possibly downgrading
It's time to replace two of my tyres. I bought a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics due to reviews on this site which i have been happy with performace wise but they have worn fairly quickly (not sure of the mileage but will check tonight).
The car is a 2003 blob WRX and is used mainly for work commute and fun at the weekend.
I've been looking at a few options and really need something below the £120 per corner (inc fitting) for the Goodyears and I was wondering how people rate the cheaper options. While I don't need a full on performance tyre I still want something good in the wet.
I have found Falken 452's £20 cheaper per tyre, Will I notice much difference in stanadard grip / wet grip / tyre life?
I have discounted the toyos after reading the less than average reviews here
Cheers

Falkens are as good imo as the goodyear, but i'm not sure where you have found that charges £100 per corner, i congratulate you, as i couldn't find them that expensive, mine were a whoping £78 each fitted, i suggest you try a decent back street tyre man, thats not driving a Bentley at the weekends, and save yourself a few more quid.
And i find the toyo ok on newage but crap on a classic with 18's, but not as good as the falken particularly in the wet.

£100 was for the goodyears from Camskill and black circles were more expensive.
The falkens were around the £78 so I think I'll give them a go
I have seen the Vredestein but wasn't sure of the fit. I have 215 45 R17's and the Vred's seem to start at 225.

Sidewall rating of 87 is recommended by Subaru for 215/45x17 or 90 if using 225/45x17

I've got falkens on the Blob WRX and fitted them onto the Litchfield when i got it (better then the RE070's that were on it for a Scottish winter). Can't fault them, some call them cheap hedgefinders but i've never had a problem with them.
Only thing I ever noticed when I moved to the 452's on a previous car was they gave more road noise than say an Eagle F1, Parads's are very good, would have used this time but too narrow, currently on Vreds and cannot fault them for grip, value and tyre wear!
i had the 452's on my focus and for a daily drive they were
good in the wet and dry. They give good milage wear aswell.
If your doing track days then i would suggest some thing a little
better.Falkens were a good all round though.

got my 1st set of falken 452 just after xmas due to being a bit skint, having used prada spec 2 and bridgestone re 040 before..the falkens cost me £350 fitted bargain, love um i will not waste money on so called premiun tyre's again.great tyre worth every penny m8,
Wow, lol at this thread, seems we all agree, for a change and it's a big thumbs up for the falkens.
I think tyres can vary from car to car dependant on size, but these falken 452 work well on my sti type r on 16's as well as my blob on 18's.
I don't think many of us on here are minted, otherwise we would be on a porker forum, and a saving of £20/40 a corner is not to be sniffed at, especially when 90% of the time i'm just pootling about and like the op just need something with decent wear and grip for the odd blast, a respected member on here tipped me the wink on these and i'm very pleased with them, and thats coming from someone that doesn't skimp on tyres as i view them as the most important thing on a car.
Apparently they do well on the german testing site too and come out as one of the top allrounders, which was good enough for me to give them a go, i suspect the hedge finder comments come from people that have never tried them, my tyre man was also impressed with the side wall strenth when fitting them, and said it's a good indicator of quality, and he's not wrong.

I had a load of comments (on this site) like 'why would you fit falkens to a litchfield unless you want to put into a field'. At the end of the day it'll also come down to how you drive the car. If you treat every drive like a visit to the ring chances are you'll end up in a hedge at some point. Not vereyone rags their everywhere and the falkens are great for general driving and when pushing on. I had them on the blob last year on the Highland Fling and didn't find their limits and they just grip and go so they'll do for me!
Before the blob i had a 3 series and used to fit Eagle F1's to it had enough of paying silly money rubber then.
