Default Mapping a JDM STI for UK fuel

Hi Guys,

just a quick one. Soon I will hopefully be picking up a fresh import ‘04’ Widetrack STI. Is it really necessary to have it mapped to suit our fuel? I couldn’t imagine it would be catastrophic not doing it?

it will be ran on BP ultimate 97 Ron petrol only (that is all we can get in Northern Ireland unfortunately)

Is it nessacary? No.
Would I get it mapped ? Absolutely
is it worth the risk of a rebuild? thags your decision.
How will it be driven? If you give it some stick its a running a big risk.
not just at high revs but also low revs high load and full boost at lower revs.
If you can afford to get one look after it well it will reward you, treat it mean it will bite

You absolutely need to map it. You could get away without if running 99, but not on 97.

As above , tesco 99 or shell would or should be ok , bp is not a good fuel to run a scooby on , i think it’s about the ethanol content , the very minimum would be drive sensibly till you get the map checked , to see if it is ok , but i expect it will need a map as it’s going from 100/103/105 octane to 97 , will it benefit from a re map yes for sure plus improved mpg , if the only fuel you have is bp then there is not a lot you can do other than map to the bp , all my 2.5 sg9 Fsti jdms have been fine on shell or tesco 99 , but got them mapped any way as makes a big difference 👍

aside from potential engine issues, it will just run so much better after a map. definitely get it done my freshly imported FSTI was night and day after it got mapped.

Thanks for the comments guys, car is getting booked in with Peter Simmons over here to have mapped for the correct fuel. A upgraded fuel pump has also been recommended at the Same time so will be doing this too.
