Default What's this part below the speaker hole?

Hi all,

Just going through a 2004 JDM sti I've just acquired and wondered what this part is?

It looks to have some copper coils in it.

TIA

M

Hmmm that's strange. Can you find what its connected too? Guessing part of the alarm system. Just a guess though.

Not easily without tracing all the wire back, it looks to be part of the OEM loom though.

I want to tap into a constant 12v source in that area; I've not checked the plug yet to see if it's even a constant 12v I just wanted to have a better idea of what it was before I unplugged it.

i’m guessing it’s either central locking related or the tone control for the speaker ? , as tweeters sometimes come with a little box you have to wire in , could be a subaru sound system upgrade ? i’m more inclined central locking related ,i’ve taken many cars to bits and not seen one on a subaru just an old honda and it was central locking related

Doesn't look anything OEM - the only wiring in that area is for the radio aerial amplifier ( "C" pillar area) and the rear screen defogger/radio aerial connections.

Having mentioned the coils, probably part of an ETC expressway payment system for automatic toll collection.

Any card reader found up front?

Any better pics of the face of the unit?

There's no card reader up front, good shout on the ETC system.

Here are some more pics.

If not OEM it's a very neat installation, perfectly spliced into the loom and with a riveted bracket.

Is the corrugated tube part of it or does it just pass over the top??
Looks as if the supply cable (red/blue and black wires in sleeve to plug) comes up from behind the seat back. Maybe taking out the seat base will give you an idea of where the supply comes from?

normally suppresses electrical alternator noise , or on older cars with older ignition systems it was the electrical noise made by the ignition system like the old points system or coil or plugs in more modern cars , if they failed it sounded like an electric turbo in your car , it was quite amusing 😂👍you could disconnect and see what you hear or don’t hear

It does look a pretty nice bit of kit, I have the instruction manual here which at some point I'll get around to reading!

Even better if it's plumbed and wired in to read OP and OT - Oil pressure / oil temperature.
Mind sadly is not. I can honestly say, they are very reliable, and I should think very accurate.

Got mine about 7 or even 8 years ago from a guy on here, I just randomly posted on a post that I was after one.....picked it up a week later.
These units are rare now. Mine is dash mounted where the clock used to be, proper matching Subaru shroud, almost looks OEM in a way.

Let me know if you need a PDF version of the instructions.
