Default Track days and insurance

I am thinking about taking the Subaru for a track day with the Mrs. Just wondered what advise or recommendations any of you that do track days have regarding insurance for such events, and any other things to consider.

I have considered taking the Scooby on the track. What concerns me is not that I may crash but that someone else may hit me. I did look at insurance but Adrian Flux wanted £160 for a day out at Brands and that only covers third party damage.
If you still want to do it, I'd recommend going on a couple of novice days first as they are well structured and generally everyone there is in the same boat. There tends to be less out and out track cars at the novice days too.
Also start at a track with lots of run off so you don't smash in to a barrier if you do go off. Close to me are Snetterton and Bedford that are both fairly safe.

Tbh I've never bothered with insurance on track days... They're quite expensive IMO, and the excess is usually quite high too.

There's no 3rd party cover on track btw, if someone smashes into you, you still have to fix your own car. The insurance covers your own car only.

As for what track days, I'd say the novice days are worse - better to be around people who know what they're doing IMO, rather than spinning in front of you

That makes sense Henrik, the company I looked at quickly upon first Google mentioned no 3rd party cover so presume this is across the board. I've only done one track day of sorts, but that was a motorcycle event in another country, with a friend I was staying with (who happens to be one of a few guys including a cousin of mine that invented the whole track day genre but that's another story!) and a friend of his that is the editor of a bike mag in that country and runs track training sessions (he has also wild carded in world super bikes against the likes of Fogarty) so had the track to ourselves and hired a bike with crash damage waver.

2001 the earlydays track insurance was for eg.£30.k car, insured upto 50% car value ( £15k ) with £7K excess was £75 but that doubled in a few years .
No mechanical repairs only bodywork etc.Maybe looking £250-300 now

i then had L&V road insurance 2002- 2011 which also covered non timed trackdays. They actually paid out on my imfamous crash at Japest 2004 at Castle Combe, i paid my £250 excess.

Sadly L&V wouldnt cover my nw 2011 320R but got great deal with @Moley at Keith micheals. he insures buth my 2011 340R and my 05 Type25 on road and track.
Although my 340R is my shopping Car and doent go on the track.

Most accidents were usaully caused by someone else and iinexperience. So some insurance is advisable but with so high axcess.

done many tracks, agreed snetterton and bedford have good run offs well organised MSV events. but scooby big exhausts and burble can fail sound tess.

regards

Tony

I recently took my son on a novice track day Oulton Park, in the garage next to me was a lad with 800hp Evo time attack beast!. Loads of serious cars there, going hell for leather. They just were having 20mins at at time.
