Default Hawk bonnet wont close - can i set the alarm?

so ive had a bit of a mare this afternoon, driving home from work my bloody rad let go - steam everywhere etc etc

ive just gone out to the car to have a look now its cooled down, went to shut the bonnet and it wont latch shut. can i lock the car via the keyfob without the alarm going off?

not sure if related or not but last week i hit a badger @ about 50mph on the way to work which has cracked my paint on the front bumper and pushed the wheel arch liner out on the passenger side

On the hawk it’s on the o/s suspension turret. I guess you can cable tie it down and the car will lock

It sound like your latch could just do with a good spray of WD40 and use a screw driver to encourage the latch to move.it could of been a underlying problem and the badger coming together with your Scooby combined with the steam bath of your radiator failing could of exacerbated the problem...latch’s are easy fix’s though.SJ.

Just finished talking to my mate who has a Hawkeye for some advice he said exactly what i said give it a good clean and lubricate and see how you get on,he also said that they can break and will need replacing he’s already had to do it twice, just by slamming the bonnet down over the years according to him.SJ.

thanks for taking the time to do so buddy, it certainly is messy around the latch so i will clean it out and wd40 the **** out of it. luckily roger clarks place is about a 30 second drive from my house so i will get them to replace the rad and the latch if needed

it will simply be jammed no doubt through lack of lubrication over the years..........

it isn't the main latch at fault which is what you are moving up and down but the initial cable release which is lower down at the rear
look for the cable and then follow it to the side and work it back and forward

I've had my latch on the blobeye stick and not allow you to close the bonnet properly. It just needed a really good clean.

using wd40 is what causes these issues,
clean with carb cleaner or brake cleaner and lube with a proper lubricant not wd40.

JDM Stig where in my post did I state that WD40 was a lubricant?I told Shrek to clean it up with WD40 "and lubricate",i know that most proper cleaners could do the job including APC,brake cleaners etc.......WD40 is a water displacement liquid good for getting rid of rust and grime on locks, your right though I should of been more specific.SJ.

i used an entire can of de-greaser on it earlier and had a good wiggle around with everything but it still wont close. rcm never got back to me regarding the rad price so ive booked it into thwaites and booked the transport for a weeks time, whole job including transport should be less than £300 depending what they find with the bonnet latch.
after that its going into the body shop for a front bumper re-spray courtesy of the dead badger.

The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago (2007 Hawkey) and despite a good clean of the catch it would not work.

Investigation showed cable and catch were worn so I fitted a new cable and catch (cable bonnet release £35.88 + lock assembly £44.33).

Yes the parts direct from Subaru - part numbers:

New catch:

When I removed the old release cable I noticed the plastic coating had melted where the cable had worked loose and come into contact with the radiator, so when replaced with the new cable I rerouted it at the back of the headlamp unit.
