Default thieving scumbags

Hello there, hope this does not get to long winded but I think its worth letting everyone know, someone tried to steal my 1996 STI import last Week, they used a crowbar between the wing and the bonnet to lift it up , the bonnet was still held by the catch so they bend the bonnet up to gain access to the battery then they levered off the negative lead , this activated the alarm (thatcham cat1 with immobiliser) so they ran off, if the alarm had not gone off or you have a crap alarm the next step is to break into the car hotwire it reconnect the battery and drive off whole process takes about 2 minutes or less. What I wanted to point out is that the switch that should of set the alarm off when the bonnet was lifted is on the opposite side to the battery so was of no use, another point is that it is a plunger type switch which closes the circuit when the bonnet is lifted, the contacts on the switch had gone rusty so it was not working anyway, worthwhile checking if you have a similar setup that has been in place for over a year or so, leave the bonnet up and try setting the alarm ? . I have now replaced this switch and added another one to cover the bonnet on both sides.
Sorry for being such a long post but I think its worth your while to check the switches are still working properly on your alarm system, IE deliberately set it off once in a while, and to let you know the method they used.

Cheers , Mike D

Hi Mike, i also live in cheltenham, and on sunday the 15th march, my mate had his sti broken into, exactly the same way - bonnet up. Luckily they didnt get off with it either. My other mate, is a tool maker, and designed a quick release steering wheel boss, that doesnt loosen over time. This is also a very good security device. Its a lot cheaper than anything demon tweaks sells and alot better quality (made in england with good quality materials). The website is www.rosagro-motorsport.com . i have one in my car to show you, Mike. Thanks Dan

Has anyone had any experience with a reverse lock, the one that goes through the side of the trans tunnel?
