Those pesky top mounts dont like prolonged high speed runs, if he had a front mount he may well of escaped :-)

Wouldn’t the top mount just heatsoak & push the IAT up?

Shouldn’t cause it to blow up, should it?

Yes, it does and will kill the engine through increased IAT.

cops could not keep up , based on it probably being a 3 litre diesel of some type then the scooby has done well , it’s probably a 2 litre engine on high miles with a lack of servicing , yes a top mount will increase iat but many a scooby has done track days and come out fine , higher speed more airflow , even so it will have an impact but not that much in my opinion , i was hitting over 160 mph for most of a day on track with no issues
