Default LM turbo series upgrades.

I've got a JDM Hawkeye with an LM400 turbo fitted. The compressor cover is a Garrett item, not the new style Turbo Dynamics branded one, so I assume this is one of the earlier LM400s fitted to my car by Litchfield alongside a few other bits they fitted.

I was thinking of having the turbo sent away in the near future TD to have a general refresh and was wondering if any upgrades can be done to to the turbo whilst it's there. Can it be converted to say a 420 or 450, or is the 400 not based on a GT30 core like the 450 for example?

Also whilst on the subject of Litchfield, did they map all their own cars in house or was it someone else who did it? I can see back in old threads with the initial LM turbo developments some cars were going to Tractive Solutions for mapping, only reason I ask is that if the car does need tweaks, I'd like it to return to where it was first mapped for the spec it has now.

I would try Owen Developments

They re-machined my Sc42 to fit bigger billet wheel better bearings etc.

If anyone can do it id imagine they can 😎

Being honest with you Kyle, I looked into this with my LM420 a few years back and was surprised to find that it was cheaper to sell my LM420 second-hand and buy a new LM450 than to try to upgrade the 420 to a 450......

You should have no issue fitting the 420 Billet Wheel conversion they do - just don't expect it to be cheap as they will want to charge for a full stripdown of the Turbo as well as the machining work and cost of the Billet Wheel

Go figure.....

Also, Andy Forrest has lots of experience with the LM series twinscroll turbo's - he can give you what you need....... and is relatively local for you.

I just figured it was going to probably need a refresh at some point as it was fitted a fair while ago, so whilst it was there might be worth seeing if I could upgrade it in some sort of way, maybe I should just leave it lol

Is there any bigger difference between the LM series and the MD series from Lateral Performance? Both are made by Turbo Dynamics and offered as twin entry.

Not really, both made by TD to specs from each of the 2 companies specific requirements so small differences but 90% of the turbo is the same.

I contacted TD to see if it was possible, standard rebuild was just over £300. When it came to upgrading the turbo to a 420/450 they said it's not possible and a new unit has to be bought from Litchfield?

I've sent a similar email off to Owen Developments to see what their take is on the situation.

I'm lead to believe the early ones with a Garrett compressor cover didn't require block trimming?
