I currently have a Prodrive backbox on my WRX hawkeye the rest is stock pipework and i'm getting an Afterburner straight through 2.5" centre section installed next week for a little bit extra sound from the exhaust. If i'm happy with the volume and sound i'll stop there (famous last words).

If i was to swap out the Prodrive backbox for the Afterburner Vortex 2.5" backbox later down the line does anyone have experience of how loud this is? I wouldn't want it to be obnoxiously loud on say cold starts etc on early mornings, as i don't want to be too inconsiderate to the neighbours. Just a nice low burble and a good bit of volume when i stomp on the go fast peddle is what i'm after not constant medium to high volume.

Basically in my opinion the Afterburner is a little raspy for my liking.

 

What about the volume?

 

Noticeable on tick over, more bum bum bum of the flat four, then from memory open it up and it was a little raspy.

Seems like what i'm after from your description, I've watched a few videos of the exhaust and it couldn't hear too much rasp so must be quite subtle.

There pretty loud i had one on before ...ie most people will turn round in street good 200 meters away
cold starts very loud but proper subaru sound ha

 

prob one of the best sounding exhausts with full decat .with std pipework will quieten it down a bit .

 

 

Was that kind of volume with decat? Or just stock pipes with a centre and muffler?

 

yea just mid section and rear box.......ive got same centre and ninja 2 rear box on not as loud but good scooby sound(dont sell them new no more)

 

I had the afterburner raptor on a classic with decat and it was stupid loud, sounded great but bordering on asbo lol
