Default What do I do??

Alright guys I'm stuck with a bit of a dilemma i lost my job on Friday and my gearbox blew on the car the weekend so I'm stuck with my car in the garage with a broken gearbox and no way of fixing it anytime soon now my dilemma is do I keep it off the road till I can afford to fix it ( no idea how long that will be) or do I just cut my losses and sell it as it stands with a broken gearbox I just don't want to lose to much money I paid £4400 for it only a few months ago so dread to even think what it's worth now any advice would be great cheers guys

I've sold cars in the past that needed jobs doing to them and never got what they are worth.
You can take into account the price of fixing then take a few hundred and then some for the trouble but it never seems enough.

Keep it I'd say.

I'd be chasing the garage that replaced the rear diff with one of the wrong ratio - it's certain to have been the cause of your issue and the reason why your gearbox is now toast.

If they sourced and fitted the part, they should be rectifying any problems caused.

Don't forget the damage may not only be limited to the gearbox, but also driveshafts etc, since these will have also been heavily loaded the whole time it was driven in this condition.

Yea that's a point i guess it's going down that road of them still wanting money the diff was matched to the gearbox number it came off a v5 sti so it should of been the correct one they are a subaru and izuzu specialist I just think it may of been just been bad luck

If its a minter (no rust) I would sorn the car until you can afford the repairs or even get a 6 speed conversion fitted.

Used 5 speed gearboxes and diffs can be picked up for as little as £100.

As you've got some time on your hands why don't you take something off the car that's worth good money, wheels for instance, buy some cheaper replacements and with the left over money buy a replacement box and fit it.

I know matty he's a good guy but I'm pretty sure he mainly deals with newage and tends to steer clear from classic stuff
