If you dont act like a *** in your car your not gonna get pulled are you. Police have got more important things to do than listen to exhaust noises thats just petty. If your worried about your exhaust noise sell the scooby and buy a lexus hybrid ta ta champs

This is how Plod is playing it.
They are letting you get away with 90db.
Strictly speaking, the limit is to be found on your log book if the car is new enough. Rather than faff about with "plus 1 db over" arguments, they are taking the view that 90 db is a good leeway, and anything over that is taking the pi$$ and you need a slap.
They are primarily only interested in lairy types who don't know how to behave.
I was told all this by the man who designed the noise testing system.
Don't shoot me! I'm only telling you how it is.

I have that same relationship with my neighbours, they particularly like it when I leave for Heathrow at 5am when I've got an early flight, or when I come home late at night

+1 we all pay our car tax and therefor can do what the **** we like....
i think the general rule is so long as you aren't driving like a tw@ then the old bill aren't likely too notice...
You'd of thought that un-insured drivers, drink drivers etc... would be higher up on the list than people with slightly too loud exhausts..

personally i like a more subtle noise, thats only really loud when you floor it
also strongly agree with The Rig, abit of consideration does go a long way
unforunately everything i see nowadays, from the road to the local shop, people just dont seem to care about anyone but themselves
Road tax != legal noise reg's
some sods near my last flat were playing loud music and karoke at 3am in the morning during last summer :| had to have my window open or sweat to death
but then i couldnt get to sleep with the noise...... could hear various neighbours shouting at them now and again....
i guess they could have said "I Pay my council tax i'll do what i like.."
Im not getting at anyone , just my personal thoughts
if we were all the same it'd be a boring world etc..
also the db scale is a logarithmic scale, one unit of scale will be an exponential rise in volume
but we all knew that

I didn't say anything about a lack of consideration!! I usually come home as quiet as possible, and make sure there's no faffing about on driveway etc.
Although being in a detatched house does have it's benefits of neighbours not close by...
If you don't use your car often then it's certainly not as much of a nuisance.
My aim was just at the police, not neighbours or general public.
