Default Feedback Request on STi Hatch FS

Bit concerning the 2l JDM motor needed a HG at such low miles...

Here's the ebay ad

Oh dear, hang on, he's updated the ad since I last looked with the engine builders (Nippon Auto Spares, Derby) 'warranty' t&c's....

Cost him nearly £6K for the work, and they gave him a 'start-up warranty only' 'due to different ECU fitted'

Unbelievable

No surprise he wants to get rid... terrible add... seems like a really p155ed off person wrote it... thing is asking someone to part with that kind of money with basically no history is a tough one.

I'd be very suspicious of it having been clocked... big time.

Great advert lol very strange a jdm engine with low miles would blow a head gasket, thought that was the invoice for the rebuild but its only the terms and conditions from the company. Not sure id be keen to buy that.

I'm trying to work that 't&c' or is it some kind of invoice? Anyway, 'Engine supply and fit' (£5000). WTF is this? A 'new' engine, or has he had the HG repaired - hardly value for money for a HG repair...

This is Nippon we're talking about who do supply a ton of spares. In which case it may not be the original engine even

HG replacement should be nearer £1800, or maybe as far as £3.5K with a refresh, clutch and a few other bits

You don't hear of many 2l JDM letting go of their HG's

And then there's that ad

Fail?

Not a great way to try and sell a car. Particularly one that has had issues.

Smacks of 'here it is, do you want it or not?'

We've used Nippon in the past to 'supply and fit' a replacement engine for our Subaru Forester X, and that's exactly what it was - a replacement engine from a donor Forester and fitting of said engine.

This seller has a tuff nutt to crack

It looks like he's had Nippon replace his 2.0 JDM lump... why?

My 2.5 in the FSTi let go a while back - I had the work done (HG's) - why would anyone go for a complete engine change, unless it's pretty serious)?

All these are the usual eventual questions arising from a sale. If only seller's were more transparnet (where have we heard that before?) we wouldn't have any of yhis...?

You will find its a twin scroll Legacy engine in it now, with the original inlet & exhaust manifolds.
I stripped one from Nippon as a base for a build, it was supposed to be low mileage etc, which it was, but had never seen an oil change in its life, the sump was full of a grease substance, even the avc's pulleys were solid, so if you had fitted it as was it would never of lasted 5 mins.

MBC / Dawes device or non-integrated EBC wound up will kill anything. Usually bottom ends.
