Hello everybody
Hi all,
I thought I'd pop in and say hello
As I'm getting rid of my Range Rover and RX8 I'm on the hunt for a Scooby. Not sure when I'll get rid of them
Now as I know sweet FA about them I'm not really sure where to start looking. I've seen a few on the Trader but not sure if they're any good.
So any advice would be most welcome.
I'm based in Oxfordshire btw
Thanks
J

Welcome on board
I am sure you will get quite a few responses from owners of particular models stating they are the best
Obvious first thing is price range / budget as that will depict where you start.
You will also see a lot about the comparison between UK & JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) widetrack & none widetrack a lot comes down to personal choice imo, the later ones with the 2.5 engine are prone to problems and f**king high tax band.
Plenty of threads on here debating the pros and cons.
Do some searching and read a few threads.
I personally went for a very low mileage Euro import and brought most of the JDM spec extras as I wanted the Subaru sound

Well, I expect around 5-6k once I get rid of my 2004 Tange Rover and RX8. So it'd be used everyday. I do like the look of the classic and want to avoid the 2.5 due to tax and what seems to be a HG problem.

Welcome!
You have a few options with a £6k budget. A newage car will be generally nicer and softer to drive as an every day car compared to the classic models. Likewise the WRX will be a nicer daily drive compared to the STI.
However, as already stated the 2.5 newages have their issues. You won't get a decent forged one for £6k sadly, so may be better to steer clear of these. That said, I had a 2006 model 2.5 WRX Impreza since new as my daily until this year, covered 76k miles and loved every minute of the trouble free fun motoring it gave me.
If it were me I'd look for a 2.0L blobeye STI if you can get one. It will be bulletproof and great fun. These cars also hold their value very well indeed.

Welcome along, classic would be my choice but not everyone can put up with one as a daily drive.
For a 6k budget you should get a nice classic, for a bit of extra comfort then @6k you won't get a nice blob STI,you will get a nice WRX,both are nice cars.
If I were to buy again then I would look at getting a nice bug STI which you might get for your budget.

That's true actually. At current prices you'll not find a "good" blob STI for £6k.
Blob WRX is a nice car. Gearbox issues with the older 5 speed boxes if the engine is pushed too far, otherwise the 2L engine is sound. You won't get the refinements of the brembo brakes etc.
Bugeye STI is a good call, but you'll struggle to find one with sensible mileage realistically, same with the classic more than likely.

My 2005 Widetrack Blob cost me £9995, 2.5 years ago, did only have 33K on the clock and in immaculate condition, as you say £6K won't get a "good" one

One other key thing none of us have mentioned to you yet, be aware of some of the traders, some very very bad reputations and some horror stories of what has happened to owners.
I'm not going to name names but I am sure you will find them easily enough.

Thanks guys top info. Much better than another forum I'm on for one of my cars.
I did see a black PPP going for 3k on the trader but something is it right about it.
I'll keep searching, the only thing about going with a trader I could chop in both my cars and come away with one.

Thankfully I don't have that as I went for the euro spec car although with my daily being an automatic I have forgotten to put the scooby in gear at times

What the hell is that stuff on the dash above the stereo ?

I am presuming you mean the ECU data monitor, it currently showing boost pressure. It plugs into the diagnostic port under the dash and reads all the data from the EUC, has several screens you can scroll through showing everything from water temp, oil temp, exhaust gas temp, road speed etc...
Nice bit of kit, got one in mine
