I’ve recently had fitted new KYB Excel G Front and Rear Shocks and Eibach Pro - Kit Sports Springs and the front Springs are Rattling also when the car is jacked up with no weight on the wheels the springs can move is this normal.

Do I need a different spring or a different shock absorber?

Hi,

Been out to have a look, the back springs have the rubber seal on the bottom and the front springs have a rubber seal on the top of the spring.

Got some photos just waiting on photobucket to upload them.

Thank you for your help
Will.

Has anyone had a problem like this before where the front springs rattle at all?
Is the spring not compatible for the strut, what else could cause this?

Are the springs seated correctly? From the pictures there appears to be a small gap?

Also did they rattle before they went on the car? Could it be an issue with the ride height when load is on the car?

ps. I'd love to hear more about the conversion to STI lower arms and the whiteline goodies you've done. Have you got a build thread?

Hi Stuart,

The old standard struts and standard springs didn’t make any noises I had them replaced because they looked past their best (they were really quite rusty).

I don’t know what these new one were like before they were fitted as I had a local garage fit them for me.

I haven’t got a build thread buddy, defiantly would recommend doing the STI arms, whilst doing this you might as well do the antilift bush and WhiteLine Roll centre kit and droplinks but order the saloon version for the front not the wagon as the wagon droplink won’t work with the sti arms as they use different size bolts

..

Thanks Will.

Thanks for the tip. I've just blown my modding budget on having some dents pulled and the wheels refurbed but I'll definitely be looking into roll center and anti lift kits in the new year.
Did you use newage or classic alloy arms?
Apologies for high jacking the thread.

Hi

The STI Arms are off a newage Blobeye STI same year as mine (04) and they come with the Ball Joint Cone Adaptor, I got them from Matty at MB Developments for £60 and he even cleaned them up for us.

He’s in the breakers section on here I would definitely recommend him.

Just having a nose through your build thread nice clean wagon by the way, any chance did you buy your Wagon from a guy in High Wycombe junction 4 M40 if it is I bought my Wagon from the same guy small world if it is.

And how long did it take to fit the arms?

That driveway does look familiar.

So yes, I think we must have got them from the same guy.
I've just noticed those side skirts, are they from an STI?

Hi I Had the arms fitted at a local garage so I don’t know but I think it was something like 3-4 hours including fitting other related parts as well.

And the side skirts are from a 2002 Bugeye Prodrive Edition STI saloon they are a nice and easy mod to do, I got them from Matty at MB Developments .
