Default Spitfire raceway first ever 10 second run

Spitfire raceway 7th may....

No one has ever gone 10 seconds down it, so I see that as the gauntlet has well and truly been set....

Fastest run last time out at smeatharpe was 11.18 on low boost.

There is a 10 in the car for sure. But any other suggestions?

I've stripped out everything not in use, no extra weight at all.

Set the suspension to drag mode

Would there be any benefit doing tyre pressures on standard road tyres? If so what do people recommend?

Any other tips?

Tyre pressures are only gonna be doable on the day i'd imagine, what you using? Obviously if your bogging down a bit put a little bit more in but there's a fine line between grip and spin

Never felt the need to adjust them and pulling 1.7s 60fts on 95% of my runs
Does lower give more grip?

Car is 500hp running toyo proxes 4 tyres at the moment.

So far I am going to run less fuel I usually turn up with 3/4 of a tank so can save 30kg or so by going with less.

How is the best way to preheat slicks as I have some kumho slicks with 1 days worth of running left in them

Yes theoretically it does, not done many 1/4's myself but theory is the same for launch, yes if you have LC set to a specific Rev range and your wheels are spinning too much off the line letting that bit of air out should stop the spin a little and grip a little more and visa versa if your bogging put more in, every bit helps.

Hmm no benefit to be had there then. Negligible at best I'm quite happy with consistent 1.7s .

Going to get some grip juice put on the slicks a few days before hand, get them nice and soft. Need some spare 5x100 wheels now though for them

Just ordered this for the slicks ;

http://griptyresoftener.com/

Obviously taking the claims of 15 points softer with a pinch of salt considering a burn out does 5 points.... but still it should cure the issue of getting heat into the tyres.

Some one mentioned in a PM why not use my high boost meth map, but the point is to do a 10 at sub 500bhp.

I think with a 30kg weight reduction, sticky tyres and a good launch should get me over the edge for my 10....

If not I'll just put some meth in and smash it that way, I'll be bringing all the kit with me, spare tyres, fuel etc

Well it didn't quite go to plan.

Due to brake pads failing etc I didn't manage to put the slicks on, nor did i manage a meth map, or anything else I thought!

Turned up, road set suspension, road tyres at 32psi and a full tank of fuel and just went for it.

I think I've I'd have gone with a quarter tank I'd have done it easily....

Ended up on an 11.06.

So close!

That's a good run, surely that will take the class? I must have missed you. I turned up at 1 and only saw 1 impreza there which was a N reg sti parked in the car park.
I only made 1 run which I cocked up at the end. changed into 5th instead of staying in 4th and managed 14 secs I think. I am just waiting for the results to go up to see the 60 ft times. The car smelt of clutch all the way home so I think I will have to upgrade next time if I am going for unlimited runs.

Check my project thread. It's all in there.

I currently hold the car record for spitfire.

We're you guys at the pub down the road? I drove past on the way back to the a30 and there was a black classic and a blob in the car park. I left about 130 though as I needed to get back and waset going to improve on what I had done today.

To be honest it was very poorly ran and organised and the strip is not suitable for 2 Lane drag racing. In fact it's ****ing dangerous. I doubt il be going back

No I was in a white type R. In fact I may have seen you, did you have your bonnet up? I did see a subaru in the queue but did not see it race as I was waiting to sign up at the caravan.

Yes always pushed to the line with the bonnet up mate.

Usually helped by some spectators wanting to chat about the car which was nice.

The right hand lane was dangerous and shouldn't be used for cars.

Yeah I was in the right hand lane. I preferred Portreath to be honest as it seemed a lot smoother. I may go back as I reckon I can get a low13/high12s time with the current set up.

Yes I have an oil cooler.

Don't know what's in it tbh. What ever engine tuner recommended.

I don't know why it's funny Matt? When you are looking for every last bit of time you can the less heat soak into the inlet manifold, intercooler piping etc, the better as far as I am concerned.

And as queuing times were nearly 25 minutes that would have generated a lot of heat

I think you'll lose more power in the crucial first 200m through cold oil over heatsoak. I usually knock nearly a second off my times over the course of the day but my terminals keep coming down. I've noticed it on some of Andy Forrest's drag days too. Just my observation though.

Just have a run trying it, get your tyres up to 35psi too. Don't worry about slight wheelspin as when it hooks up the revs will be higher from it.
