Brief encounter
Garage forecourt in Cornwall. I'm just pulling in there for V Power and there it is. GTR35 in white. Nismo Nigel is topping his tank up. I'm not looking at him, but he's staring at me. I'm driving a very very nice Blob STi. 2.35, twisted kit, GT35R, which of course he doesn't know about, although the fast road cams and twin plate clutch are giving the game away, as are the huge AP Racing brakes fitment and the Sparco Evo 2 seats. Over 600 bhp on V Power once I've finished running the new motor in.
He can't take his eyes off me, willing me to check out his car package. I'm treating him like I would Simon Cowell in the same circumstance. Nope, don't know you, not interested. He pays his bill and saunters to his car, still looking in my direction. Zilch from me. He fires up his motor, blipping the throttle. It snicks into gear and I'm still totally ambivalent. He even uses the launch control when he leaves the forecourt and I don't so much as raise an eyebrow.
Start of a crap day for him I suspect..

I did once pull in to the same garage driving a 1967 Shelby Mustang, and apologised to the Ferrari 458 owner at the next pump for making him feel inadequate!

No, it's a customers car, I'm running it in after a major build and prior to mapping. I can't say as I approve of road racing although my memory has convenient lapses from my youth!

I've always come across nice people in fill up stations, always given a compliment if car was nice regardless of make or being male/female but you do get the cockey kuntys that thing they are above every1 they do get ignored

I only go in for road racing on my Lambretta! In 33 years of tuning performance cars we have maintained clean licences and no road risk insurance claims at all. I'll leave racing GTR's to the loons.
