Brief encounter

Garage forecourt in Cornwall. I'm just pulling in there for V Power and there it is. GTR35 in white. Nismo Nigel is topping his tank up. I'm not looking at him, but he's staring at me. I'm driving a very very nice Blob STi. 2.35, twisted kit, GT35R, which of course he doesn't know about, although the fast road cams and twin plate clutch are giving the game away, as are the huge AP Racing brakes fitment and the Sparco Evo 2 seats. Over 600 bhp on V Power once I've finished running the new motor in.
He can't take his eyes off me, willing me to check out his car package. I'm treating him like I would Simon Cowell in the same circumstance. Nope, don't know you, not interested. He pays his bill and saunters to his car, still looking in my direction. Zilch from me. He fires up his motor, blipping the throttle. It snicks into gear and I'm still totally ambivalent. He even uses the launch control when he leaves the forecourt and I don't so much as raise an eyebrow.
Start of a crap day for him I suspect..

MattyB1983 02 February 2016 04:46 PM

ROFL... The whole of the performance tuning industry is based on willy waving!

trevsjwood 02 February 2016 07:58 PM

the GTR boys think they have it all though, see them at the Pod on Jap day.
Must have got him wondering.

Others have made that schoolboy error, yes..

Alan Jeffery 02 February 2016 08:02 PM

I did once pull in to the same garage driving a 1967 Shelby Mustang, and apologised to the Ferrari 458 owner at the next pump for making him feel inadequate! :lol1:

gazzawrx 02 February 2016 08:22 PM

If the guys about to drive off in a gtr then that dosen't seem like its gonna be a sad day to me.

I've often wondered about that one. As in would you choose a different car if nobody ever saw you driving it?

For me id say no, the gtr is my dream car which hopefully as theyre reasonably priced i may get to own one some day, there is also the 67 shelby but i know ill probably never earn enough to own one of them:cry:

Peedee 02 February 2016 09:16 PM

I imagine R35 GTR owners feel the same when RS_Matt turns up in his WRX.

No, it's a customers car, I'm running it in after a major build and prior to mapping. I can't say as I approve of road racing although my memory has convenient lapses from my youth!

I only go in for road racing on my Lambretta! In 33 years of tuning performance cars we have maintained clean licences and no road risk insurance claims at all. I'll leave racing GTR's to the loons.
