Default Newage Canards

Hi guys,

In the process of making a pair of canards for my bugeye, just putting feelers out there if anyone here would be interested in a set? As far as I can see there's nowhere selling a reasonably priced set.

Mine will be ABS, carbon effect. If these go well I may try real CF. Would be made to order so as long as I can source it, any colour would be possible.

Materials arrived today so I'll get to making templates etc and post pictures once they're complete.

Leave a reply if you're interested

Theyre small winglets intended to provide or to enhance aerodynamics and stability of a vehicle

Fitment should be pretty similar, if anyone is local (Suffolk, Bury St Eds.) I'm sure I could do a deal if I could use their car to make a model specific template. Theres a fair few imprezas near me so I'll do my best to test if one size will fit all.

I intend for mine to look similar to the APR carbon canards, but less triangular, more forward facing than sticking out, if that makes sense? And also at at a fraction of the cost.

Just as an example (not mine!) :

Any side pics of how you gonna mount them?
Are they a L shaped lip so you can bolt them on? How are you fitting

I'll be experimenting with some 90 degree brackets, a lip would be preferred but that'd require vacuum forming which I don't have access to. The canard will be drilled to bolt onto the bracket, and then the bracket bolted to the bumper with washers on the inside of the bumper

Default Nearly done...

Here's where we are now, nearly ready to fit. Got short-changed on rivets by homebase, pack of 15 turned out to be only 9

The set will compromise of:
2 canards (mounting hardware already riveted on)
12 M5 bolts
12 Nyloc nuts
12 washers
And some double sided tape to hold them in place while you check placement

This is what they look like now:

Actually been thinking of making my own splitter and diffuser, can't find anything I like online that doesn't cost a kidney. Shouldn't be too much work.

Back to the canards though, I'll be test fitting later today, weather dependent. Who wants to work in the rain? But anyway, stay tuned for pics!

It looks like something from death race. Personally I think where it's positioned (right at the front) may cause some issues as in its dangerous. Can you imagine (God forbid) that you hit someone with it?! It looks like it could slice someone's leg! Unless it's made from a soft material? Or it's not for a road going car? Maybe I'm getting too soft in my old age.

I didn't want to be the first to say that, but I agree. Looks at the pics (bottom one mainly) It extends the width of your car quite a bit. What about in those tight situations where you squeeze through a gap, you'd either rip them off or scratch the side of a car.

Yea to be honest, once they were on it wasn't how I had imagined. Wanted your opinions first though.
The pictures aren't great, but they don't extend further than the width of the car, but your points are still valid. I'm making a smaller version, probably about 2/3rds of the size. Much more practical for a road car, but should still look good.

Thanks for the feedback

They need a curve on them IMO to look good if just using 1.
Using 2, a small one and larger one would suit better.
IMO.

How much extra downforce do you really need on the road?

I thought about this because theres none made for my spoiler, and I like the look of them. Unfortunately they'd need vacuum forming or moulding and I don't have access to that sort of equipment.
