Hope to be a new scooby newbie.
Just joined the forum. From the US but live in Turkey. No English speaking forums here. I am a permanent resident of Turkey. Lots of cars that are not produced in the US so I am not aware of what cars to look for. The impreza caught my eye. Never owned one. Trying to get a crash course on these cars. The cars here are very expensive by US and UK standards. Just from an initial search it looks like the older Imprezas are with in my price range. My worries are about fake or clone cars. Looks like every Impreza has WRX STI stickers on it. The inspection area looks pretty strict. Have found two cars in my area. Both are 1997 models and looks like the engine has been completely rebuilt and claim about 350hp. Both look like fun toys to play around with. Since I know nothing about the scooby scene did some search online. Kind of confused.....the ads say 2.0 GT. Cant find much info. Were these models available in the US? Also, since both ads show the engine removed from the car for the rebuild......not sure if they are putting a large engine in a lower value body. The inspection office may not pass it...if it is not the original engine. Is there a way to see if it is the original engine from the factory? Also.....verify what sub model it actually is? Thanks in advance.

The GT was the name given to the classic Impreza throughout much of Europe and is roughly the same car as the UK Turbo 2000. This car looks like a modified GT, with a front bumper from a 1999/2000 car, large spoiler, light conversion etc
Do a search on differences between the UK turbo 2000 (DBM) and the Jap WRX/STi (JDM) cars, in simple terms the latter have more power and better specification.
The US had the RS a normally aspirated 2.5L, but got the 2.0L turbo WRX in 2000 (new age car).

Appreciate the help. The guys in the north american subaru forum are a-holes. They just told me to google everything and they did not have time to answer all my little questions. Sad part...they were ALL moderators. Will see if I can set up a meeting a check out this car. There was another car but looks like it was just sold.
