WHAT TURBO+DOES NOT BOOST
Hi all. New to this forum but have a few questions I'm hoping some of u may answer. I've just bought a 96 Impreza sti jap import for a project .. What turbo would this be running ? As standard.as I'm looking to upgrade but not sure what is on the car.
Also the car won't boost? There is no smoke like when a turbo is knackered when driving so I'm guessing it's not that.!I've read up it could be the boost solenoid? But I have noticed the intake pipe that goes to the turbo is split where it's clamped to the turbo. Would this cause the no boost issue?ive ordered a new intake pipe and will replace when arrives.i guess checking for leaks hoses would be another thing to check? Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks In advance

Also check the actuators working fine and not split or sticking . Check your basics first mate before you spend your hard earned . Boost hoses tend to like popping off also

Try pressing the hinge part connected to the exhaust when its cold obviously and try to suck the small vac hose disconnect from the opposite end to the turbo you should see slight movement not a lot just enough to see it move

Ryt. I've changed the split intake pipe for a new one. It's still has no boost. It's still idling crap too..I've checked if it's the dv and that made no difference. This car came with a manual boost controller which I want rid of anyway. But not sure if all the vac hoses have been messed around with for it..I have a 2000 turbo Impreza for spares would the boost solenoid be the same and vac setup be the same? Was thinking of swapping it over.

Also it sounds like many things have been messed around with on this car, meaning any manner of things could be wrong causing you to have no boost.
Listing all the mods would be helpful to diagnose the problem and take photos of anything you think might be wrong because we can tell you if its right or wrong then.

Put the car back to as standard as you can, remove the MBC and return all the pipe work to how it should be,there are plenty at guides to show you how it all should be plumbed in correctly,it's also likely that the restrictor pill has been removed when the MBC was fitted so make sure you have the correct one fitted in the right place.
Do the ECU reset using the correct procedure follow this guide

After the reset take the car for a drive and then read the ECU to see if you have any error codes which are causing you problems.
