You shouldn't powder coat any type of wheel anyways... Just get them painted.

The heat affects the alloy and makes them brittle. Not a good idea to heat alloys at all!

Better quality wheels with better quality materials will obviously hold up better than cheapo ones...

Oh yes here we go, the usual scoobynet stuff of because "it hasnt blown up on me yet it will be fine crew"

Its not me been pedantic, it is physics of what happens to alloy when you heat it up, it is a fact that it will become more brittle, it might not have happened to you due to numerous factors, they might not have heated enough, or not for long enough etc, but it can AND DOES happen to powder coated wheels due to heating up alloy in the powder coating process.

You might get lucky like these guys and it be fine, or the wheels might literally come off the wagon....

Just to point out, that powder coating actually makes wheels HARDER/Stronger. BUT that removes the "flex" from the metal, which is why it can cause an issue....

I was not saying you are wrong was just simply stating that I have never had any issues with powder coating.

Ive had plenty of wheels powdercoated in the past as I prefer the finish over paint, but my cars are usually fast road cars, and not track cars.
I think if I was doing trackdays where the wheels are getting a good workout and the heat from the brakes etc then I would think twice about having them powdercoated.

Each to their own, but I personally wouldn't take the risk as I like to drive hard occasionally

work for a alloy wheel refurb company, Never ever had any issues with alloys breaking as per. Understand as to why it can happen, a normal powdercoaters will heat them to whatever they usually use from prior experience, the optimum baking temp is 180 Degree's.

I am not ruling it out at all however, More likely to crack from corroded alloy, poor quality, buckled or previously repaired buckled alloy's. Especially the rear of the spoke's corrode quite often. Seen some VGC looking AMG C63 alloy's with corrosion so bad at the back we didn't even bother shotblasting them as would of rendered them dangerous. Car was barely a couple year's old.

Just my tuppence worth.
