Turbo problems
Hi all,
Just need a little bit of advice/guidance.
I own a WRX300 on a '05 plate. Bought it in Feb this year. Over the last three months, the turbo seems to have stopped working twice. There is no boost in the usual rev range. After a couple of days, the turbo starts to work again and all is good.
It's happened again today, second time in three weeks.
There are no unusual noises or loose metal etc., everything else appears to be normal. When idling, if revved hard, the waste-gate/bov still sounds as though it is releasing.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas what could be causing it other than the obvious - replace the turbo
Thanks.

Has it ever fuel cut? As though it's stopped pulling when on boost in higher gears?
I would be starting with the boost control solenoid as they are known for you're symptoms, they get stuck closed and make the wastegate open at 0.5 bar which feels like no boost but the dump valve still dumps when the throttle closes.
Do you have a boost gauge?

Turbo problems
Hi,
No the fuel has never cut off, when the issue occurs, the car carries on as normal other than no boost.
I don't have a boost gauge.
If it is the solenoid, is this easy to replace??
Thanks,

Looks like it could be the boost solenoid. Temporarily took off one of the feeder tubes and on a very limited throttle, the turbo was boosting fine. Booked in to my local jap car clinic in the week for a full check and diagnosis

Hi Bob, I'm running the car on Shell fuel only, not always V-Power but always Shell as it's at the top of my street.
The garage I went to today did the test as described above. No boost gauge but one to be fitted after all this.
Thanks.
