Default splitting headlight question

wanting to spray the inside of my hawk headlights using the oven method, but i have an issues, this is the oven at home is a gas one with an open flame! is it still ok to use? maybe cover the light with tin foil and keep away from the flame? or is it not worth the risk and find an electric oven?

Have never done the headlight mod but any plastic near flames sounds like a terrible idea lol

Heatgun is the best way... don't use oven as they will keep 'cooking' and melt after you take them out to cool down, at least mine did :|

however hot did you get them.....

I've done loads in the oven and never had an issue.

OP, they'll be fine in the oven even with an open flame. Just do one at a time and place the light away from the flame. You don't need to cook the light, just get it warm.

personally you have way more control with a heat gun and way less chance of something going wrong.... each to there own I guess

I've done it with a heat gun as well. I find it easier to split using the oven technique.

You dont need to use any other glue, all you need to do it be careful splitting them and then heat the glue back up again before you close them together.
The lights slot into place and are also held in with screws so you wont get any leaks unless you really bodge it up, take your time and you will be fine.

If you are worried you can put new glue down with a glue gun, or sealant, or whatever you want but i wouldnt bother.

I did mine yesterday, in the oven at 80c for no more than ten minutes. Second light was only in for about 7 or 8 minutes.. Came apart a treat. Did the business then warmed them back up to re seal. I didn't bother removing the bulbs etc.. They only go in to warm the glue that's all

Don't use an oven, I made that mistake..... my headlight was only in there for a few mins and it melted the plastic and turned it all white so the head light was scrap.

You live and learn. Definitely use a heatgun

I would suggest a heat gun also, although TAKE TIME when sealing it back up, I rushed mine and now one is super foggy and damp inside.

so much so I've have to buy a new headlight!

Well I had a very productive morning. Started early doors with hair dryer, did the job but fùck took time think heat gun may work better as element kept over heatin in cráppy dryer. Will put pics on soon.

Did mine in oven on 50. About 12mins each and came apart fine. I then warmed the black sealer up with hairdryer before i put back together. Just keep an eye on them and you be fine.
