Been flashed by a Gatso tonight. Now I thought Id read here that you can only be zapped from behind the car. In this instance I was facing the camera which was on the opposite side of the road facing me. Am I right in what I am thinking. There are gatso road markings on the opposite side of the road as well but none on the side that I was driving. Anyone Know as I dont want another £60.

Cheers
Chip.

That's happened to me before - I think you'll be in the clear, I was.

Read on speedtrap bible and i would quote but i cant find it at the mo, if flashed coming the opposite way it is very likely to be a dummy camera as the motion sensor is less capable than the one fitted in real ones.

Chip,

Its a dud.....its likely to have caught reflexions from your car, couldn't calculate things properly and flashed. There is one up here that I pass (going the opposite way) - and its winks at me all the time !!

I dont think they can register a negative speed. Also flashing in your face is a distraction!

There is one near me if I go through it facing me, at 43+ (30 mph limit) it goes off when im level with it and people on the other side get a shock!
I know, juvenile but they won't get caught either. There was one front facing that was installed somewhere, but an orgainsed biker raid through is at speeds of 100 mph plus and fingers up flawed that one! No plates on the front!

The Gatso's that take pictures from the front are Truvelo's.....usually in a blue box. They have an infrared flash and therefore not visible.....

Thanks all. Looks like Ill be OK then. Most annoying thing about it is that I ordered a Bel 330 only yesterday morning.

Have seen a truvelo flash, and its one that nabs a lot of people too !!!

Also Truvelo do NOT use radar !!! they use rubber strips in the road, so if your radar detector doesnt go off, doesnt mean its not working !

We got flashed by a camera in Germany on the way to the Nurburgring at Easter.

Huge red flash was all we saw.

Hope that helps
