import stiv5 or uk bugeye wrx?
which should i get?
interested in both, imported sti5 has 92k miles exhaust/filter/valve standard power.
uk bugeye has 100k miles but 8k mile old recon engine, engine/filter/valve/cambelt & water pump/exedy clutch - standard 225bhp.
what to go for?

V5 STI
Pros
Hold their value better
Better drivers car
Better potential for tuning
More respected car in the community
Cons
Rear arches
Less suitable as a daily driver
Will be 17 years old
Can only be mapped via ecutek or aftermarket ecu (£550 minimum)
Not as insurance friendly as a UK car
Bugeye wrx
Pros
Better build quality than a classic
Newer
Safer
Cheap to insure
Better suited as a daily driver
Cheaper to map than a classic
Cons
Heavier than a classic
Look ugly unless fitted with morrettes
Engine/gearbox less capable
Starting to show their age
Wont hold its value for much longer
Drab interior
Less of a drivers car
All depends what you want one for. Classic all the way if its a 2nd car/toy, bugeye if you need it as an all rounder.
What you'll pay for a DECENT v5 sti would be average Blobeye WRX money so choose wisely.

Version 5 STI everyday of the week - slightly biased as I have one....all the pros and cons TYPER99 has put up are spot on.......still love it to bits and would have it over a Bugeye or Blobeye (UK models) 100%

great response guys, im still none the wiser really - like you said both have pros and cons - i could just not bother and keep my saab 9-5 thats running 300bhp, ap racing 4 pots, billstein full suspension... but im not really sure if thats a car i want to be taking to a track, it may be totally out of its depth compared to a scooby sti v5/bugeye.

I threw a classic over a hedge upside down and walked away with nothing but a glass cut, so wouldn't say its any less safe lol
Depends on use, if you do plenty of mileage then wrx New age, if not then sti all the way.
Sti will be alot more hard-core drive.

Having had both, he's my thought.
V5 STi -
Likes.
The RA's are very good.
Raw 280 bhp.
Driving feedback.
Seats.
JDM goodies, rear wiper, folding mirror's, rev range, climate control.
Power to weight ratio.
Better/stronger box as standard.
More iconic, looks.
Good starting point for a track car.
Simpler.
2 door available - Type R and RA.
Dislikes.
Rear arches.
Age related issues.
Headlights.
Errrr struggling now.
Bugeye WRX
Likes.
Build quality is better.
More refined.
A bit more space - but not much.
Chassis is more rigid without braces.
Headlights are better.
95 RON on UK cars if unmodded.
Less tin worm.
Dislikes.
Feels slow in standard setup - 215 bhp.
Softer suspension feel.
Headlights are still crap.
UK WRX seats are rubbish.
No rear wiper - you do miss it.
No folding mirrors - as above.
No 2 door version.
I just never jelled with both the UK Bug WRX and WRX Wagon I had, even after spending money on maps, brake upgrades etc However, my current JDM WRX Blob is a much better car, engine and set up.
If my V5 STi had not thrown an engine sickie at 100k then I might still have it (it's now on 120k with a forged rebuild having been done). It was a grey import, was bought with zero miles on the clock and cost the original owner £29K on the 1st March 1999.
I never had any issues with insurance quotes and both cost about the same.

the more i think about this the more i think i would be better suited to either...
v4/5 classic STi OR bugeye wrx ppp something like that, from what i can gather the bugeye wrx is going to be dog slow compared to what i have now so its almost a pointless excercise to get one of them.
Going to look more into the sti version 4 or 5, thanks very much guys been really helpful!

guys could i ask you please to listen to this video iv uploaded and tell me if that sounds ****zored or not, its been an api rebuilt engine with cp forged pistons version 9 crank/rods/cams - it shows good oil pressure from cold on the oil pressure gauge and the dude tells me its fine and he had the same sort of noise on his 800bhp sti he built, and that it quietens down when warm but doesnt completely go...
