Engine management lights

H guys
Driving home from cardiff today the engine management light and the traction control lights have come on, any idea;s what the problem could be?

plug in a code reader and see what errors have been stored?

I had a few lights come on my Seat Leon once (ABS / Traction followed by EML and battery light) it ended up being a knackered alternator.
