Default Hatch STI Thatcham cert??

Good Evening,
I'm looking at buying a hatch STI. When I rang the insurance company they said they need to see a Thatcham cert for the car. As far as I was aware I didn't need one because the car comes with the cat1 system from the factory. Do they come with one? Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

To clear up the above I mean should the car come with a certificate?

Yes, but not from factory, the cat 1 alarm is installed by Subaru UK before delivery to the dealers. The cars come with a certificate for the installation. Mine also came with the tracker information and alarm PIN all in the service folder. If the car doesn't have one you could contact IM and see if they have a copy of the certificate on file.

That's great, exactly the info I was after. Thanks. Was the tracker an aftermarket option on these cars or where they all fitted with one?

On UK STi the tracker was a standard fitment. If you have UK hatch STi then it should have a tracker unless previous owner has removed it.

or the previous owner just didn't pay the €100 annual subscription to MetaSat which would mean it has lapsed.

It is possible to get MetaSat to reactivate the tracker if your insurer requires it, but make sure you get the contact details updated on their system.

Be aware there are mixed views on MetaSat and I believe the new MY15 STi uses a different tracker. That said I keep mine active and after an initial rough patch when feedback communication was patchy at best it does now appear to be working as it is supposed to.

All in the Sigma M32 alarm and MetaSat tracker appear to be quite an effective package with the keyless entry. Also it is possible to change some of the alarm settings if you require, the detail is very similar to the M30 setup instructions which are out there.

Have fun!

I checked with the garage today and all the info is there with the service history etc. I'm going to see how much my insurance drops versus cost of activating the tracker, however my gut feeling is to have it activated anyway. All being well I will collect the car on Friday.
