Question How to confirm 6 digit engine serial number?

Does anyone know a site or somewhere which have the Subaru 6 digit serial numbers alongside with the model it matches with?

Regards,

Subaru Collector 555.

I thought each engine had a unique number?

The GD/GG EJ Series had these codes -

http://www.spec-c.com/what-model-is-my-impreza/

The GC/GF codes -

http://www.type-ra.com/what-model-is-my-impreza/

So it is impossible to know what engine it is without having the VIN code?

My friend is wanting to buy a classic which is allegedly had a type R engine fitted. It is a Version 3-6 judging by the inlet manifold but he wanted to check the block and that it is a Type R lump. As it is a swapped engine you can't refer to the VIN code which is for the original vehicle.

Version 3~4 ( phase 1.5 ) inlet manifolds have a centrally mounted coil pack where as the Version 5~6 ( phase 2 ) inlet manifolds have the coil pack offset to the right hand side.

Without pulling a cam cover to see what camshaft ID and shim type it has, you will be hard pushed to tell externally if it is a Type R.

I had this exact same question a while back and it seems there is no way of telling which model the engine is from with just the six digit number
