Default let's get this straight

right lets get this straight

about the spec c I bought

when I bought it gaz said it had a crunch at high revs from 3rd to 4th
i drove the car from Blackpool to colchester, trying to replecate this so called crunch and I couldn't find it ,
the next day I took the car out on the country lanes yet again trying the box in all gears from 1k to 7k revs and still no crunch
I called gaz and told him I can't find the crunch, he said I wouldn't say it was there if it wasn't ,
so yet again iv tryed this a few times and no crunch what so ever ,
I put a bit of money in to the car on a few little touches and gave the car a oil and Ulster change
iv been using the car about 2 months and can't find the so called crunch

I put the car up for sale and took a deposit on it ,
only for gaz to contact the buyer and tell him iv not told him about this , the buyer txtd me and was asking a few questions, one been if the gear box is ok ,
my reply was , when I bought it I was told it had a crunch from 3rd to 4th at hight revs
,but I explained my findings and said I really can't find it so as far as I'm concerned this is untrue

the next day the buyer contacted me saying he wants his deposit back due to me been dishonest about the crunch
and not disclosing it in the advert
my response was why would I say there is a crunch when I can't find it my self

I then said to the buyer , right I'll get in the car now and take a video of the car going through the gears at high / low revs and send it to him
, I did this and yet again found no crunch

the buyer is happy with the video and still comming on Sunday
, if when he comes he finds this so called crunch , I'll be more then happy to give him his deposit back

iv nothing to hide and here's the video I took

all I can say is I think gaz was trying to drive like tommie Mak and it didn't work too well , either not dipping the clutch enough or trying to engage gear too quick
or he's a bit pissed that I'm making a few quid ,
it's not like iv bought it and not put money in to it

and gaz this is the 2nd time iv heard you slagging the car to potential buyers and if you want a chat you have my number

Ever been in a car with gaz then?,
He's a straight up guy who looks after his cars and drives them with mechanical sympathy.
I doubt he is P1ssed either as he has bought a better car.
More than likely potential new owners have asked gaz and he has informed them of the issue as he did you before he sold it.

Got no vested as I know and get on with both of you, a friend from down south was interested in the car and I asked if there is any issues with the car. Gaz advised me about the crunch and said Brian at cams will be looking at it the day after, Brian checked it and said it will eventually need the synchro doing.

Now this is a common issue with 6 speed boxes as I'm sure you're aware Stu, my friend was still going to put an offer in for the car as he appreciated Gaz's honesty. However due to change of personal circumstances he could not go through with the purchase.

Good luck with the sale and hope to see you back in another Type R this time

I can only comment of my findings and after owning and selling quite a few subaru's the synchros seem fine to me
I'm not out to rip no one off or hide things , and once the buyer asked me , I was honest with my reply , and I didn't know he had asked gaz or if gaz talked to him

I'm a honest guy and wouldn't like if it happened to me , so I defo wouldn't do it to any one else

Now you taking the **** stu, *I contacted the buyer,*- * driver error*, Get your facts right before you start presuming I'm trying to put people off, I've got my new car and am not interested in my old one

You sure they didn't PM me...and I told them exactly the same as I told you and everyone else who was interested in the car, The car has a syncro issue at high revs and you will hear in on track if not the road depending on how you are driving, this has never been hidden by me and just being honest or would you rather I wasn't, This is the first time it has been mentioned on a forum by me and all I have done is be honest...let's just clarify that before you start making assumptions...apologise whenever you like stu, you have my number if you have an issue.
Although a suggestion for you stu...if the new prospective buyer buys and pays for it and then has an issue with it why don't you pay to get I fixed...you know like the amount I knocked off it for you to have the issues fixed, just a thought.

if cam looked at if for you as you said to other people

does that mean you did a gear box out and strip down to find out ???

and as for knocking money off , I don't think so as we sorted the price , then the next day you told me about the so called crunch

yes I believe it was driver error as since iv had the car it's not done it once , in any gear or any revs

if the buyer contacted you , then I'm sorry for saying that bit

but the buyer asked and I told him what you said to me and I told him my version of the box / car

once he comes Sunday he can see for him self

and make the judgement for him self

this post might of put him off but that was my call to make my findings clear

No it told you about it during the hour long phone all we had when you called, also mentioned about totb and the ring if you remember, what I did I let you know about the following day was the 3 leaky coilovers and knocked bit more off as I thought it was only 1 or 2,
no it wasn't stripped hence me erring on the side of caution and told you it needed doing and discounting accordingly, I'm not getting into an internet argument over it, my concious is clear.

I am always suspicious of people who buy a car only to sell it shortly after.

This is the first time I've seen a thread go up about a seller mentioning his car has an issue only to be accused of lying about it......******* lol

It's an odd one isn't it.
Seller told me something was wrong confirmed by a specialist before I bought it.

My MY03 STi JDM had a crunch from fourth to fifth. I posted on here many years ago and was told it was the syncro and needs gearbox out and needs repairing or it will only get worse and end up costing more in the long run. Well 10 years later and another 60,000 miles I have left it and it has been fine In fact I struggle to replicate it now. I don't know whether that's because I have got older and so don't go through the gearbox as quickly anymore lol. It only seemed to do it if you went for a really fast change, a normal change in daily driving it is fine. All very weird.

HTH.

What on earth were you trying to achieve by starting this thread Stu?

You've highlighted that you knowingly purchased a car with issues, want to sell it very shortly after buying it, drawn further issue to the problems on a public forum open to potential buyers and appear to have incorrectly accused someone of trying to undermine a sale when it seems the prospective buyer contacted a well-known previous owner with a reputation for fastidiously maintaining his cars.

GLWS!

I personally think this should of be done over the phone, as above anybody can view and comment adding there bit to the mix which 9/10 it usually upsets someone and causes a 20 page thread.

I personaly think the add should state that box may require syncro ring and a set of new coilovers.

I started it because as far as I'm concerned there is no issue
like iv said iv nowt to hide and if I found the crunch it would of been sorted or told about

I'm not overly botherd if the car sells or not because after doing the bits and giving it a full valet last weekend, I'd happily keep the car

ok the buyer contacted gaz , but only when I mentioned it to him
and iv said sorry on here to gaz

as for the shocks I told the buyer about these and knocked money off to rectify this

iv been on the phone to a subaru specialist and asked a few questions
and was told the box needs to come out and stripped to find out if the syncros have gone

gaz did not get cam to do this , other wise he would of done them

so on some ones say so was told they would need changing eventually
but ain't that standard on any moving part

it's a open forum and maybe I shouldn't of ou this up , but iv nowt to hide
so why not get some views on it
good or bad

Seriously...I sold you a car an highlighted the faults like any honest seller would do and discounted it accordingly, You were not the first to enquire about it hence it's common knowledge about the box.

I am reasonably bright, I've been around cars all my life and worked in a garage years back, added to the fact I've been driving impreza's for 10 years I think I can take an educated guess on a syncro issue...but I asked someone else to confirm my suspicion...really am I in the wrong for being honest here!!?

If you want I'll post my vids up at the ring if you like stu and you can decide if I'm trying to be tommy mak as you put it.. which was only in August, Don't try and make out like I'm the one in the wrong either, I have not bad mouthed the car to anyone...I have answered any questions I have been asked honestly via any PM's I've been sent, I wish I hadn't sold it to you now though as you clearly have issues with honesty, this is my last post on the subject unless you want to see the vids obviously!

how have I got issues with honesty??
I told the buyer what you told me , then I told him my findings

and your staying clear of the question, whether or not you have had the box out and stripped to see if it is the synchros

Stu I had a spec c box with the same crunch in my first white v3 from 3rd to 4th by the sounds of it mine was worse, I sold it on to paul doyle in good faith told him of the issue and discounted accordingly and the box was never stripped to be checked that the synchro was faulty but my local garage confirmed it was the synchro after driving the car.

Bearing in mind I had ran it at 520bhp no problems at all with the crunch, Paul did the synchro at his first event so I agreed to go halves on the repair with him. What may last indefinitely for one person may have issues much quicker for another depending on use.
