Default Opinions on these for sale

Evening folks,

I'm on the lookout for a 2005ish STI I've spoken to the guy selling this and it seems like a good car with good service records etc. Just wondering what you guys make of the price.

Apparently it's an import from Malta to its first owner in Scotland when new. I've done a little research into this and can't really see any downsides. It's got a Sigma alarm, DCCD so the spec is the same as a UK one.

Cheers

I test drove it on Tuesday. Couple of things. I spoke to Adrian and he knew i was turning up to test drive and before i did was nice as pie ("yeah come over, not a problem, etc"), when i arrived he wanted to do anything BUT allow me to test drive it, he complained that it was wet outside and if i test drove it and didnt buy it he would have a £50 valeting bill. Anyway, eventually he let me test drive it. There's a god awful squeek from the rear nearside, the car doesn't pull how it should (definitely something amiss but couldnt tell you what), he complained on the test drive that i was taking the car too high in the rev range (apparently i hadnt bought it yet so wasnt allowed to test it by getting anywhere near the limiter on a dual carriageway) - all down the left of the car there are scratches and marks, the drivers side A pillar has a big dent thats been filled, the front nearside bumper doesnt fit properly...... I very nearly bought it until my brother pointed out the aforementioned issues. Glad i went with my heart and not my head.

That all being said, its not the worst i've seen by a long shot. If you're willing to put a few quid into putting issues right it's probably not a bad car, but i think it's very top heavy money wise and he wasnt up for budging so i personally walked away. Also wanted a minimum of £500 deposit (i said i'd transfer remaining amount in a few days as i had to move some cash between accounts and he ummmd and ahhhd) - not as if i asked him to wait 4 weeks is it.

Anyway, there you have my experience with this particular car.

Glad I asked. Thanks for the info!

Funny how he only told me £300 deposit today. Said if it wasn't as he'd described it then he'd refund it. He said it was absolutely immaculate inside and out. Absolutely spotless bla bla bla. Was speaking to a guy called Richard

It's certainly by no means "immaculate" inside and out, the interior is quite worn too and shabby and the scratches on the exterior aren't going to polish out put it that way. I understand these are now oldish cars and you cant expect them to be immaculate, but i wasted 2 hours on that very word going over only to have to battle to test drive it and find out it was far from immaculate. Wouldn't waste your time mate.

Looks a nice car, But im pretty sure its £500 a year road tax, if your not aware!!! Most hawks are expensive road tax, unless you find one on a 06 plate which will be the same as a widetrack blob.

Yea it's £500! Insurance is a fair bit more than a blob too.

Mate I'd hold out for the right car it'll come along. My last two Imprezas have come from Scoobynet and I couldn't have asked for better cars or sellers. With forums you have a checkable history to a point and the cars are usually a known quantity.

Personally, Cheshire Performance aside, I think you're taking a backwards step from the car you lost the deposit on to the cars on the links above.

Def worth investigating that car further.

Don't forget to check out the classifieds on this forum too.
