Default Twinscroll

What are the twinscroll headers and uppipe good for power wise on my 03 spec c
I no the vf36 is good for 400 just wondering what the limiting factors are also what are the pink sti injectors good for also

As I've now decided to keep the spec c and mod mod mod I want to see 400 on the first mapping and was just wondering what's required

Exhaust system
Induction kit
Fmic
Map

???
???

Cheers, Csf

Get an after market downpipe and exhaust. Should free it up well. As well as a turbo inlet.

I have a twinscroll 207 with an hks downpipe and 3in exhaust. No bhp numbers but there was a big difference from the stock components.

You will struggle to get 400bhp out of a VF36...400lbft with good mapping yes but the exhaust housing is a little restrictive to get there apparantly, same with the pinks hit and miss for 400bhp with a FPR possibly but you could always do with a little headroom, you do t want them running at 99%ID.

I'm not going to upgrade the turbo just yet but push the vf36 it so it running at full capacity, if I can get 400 or there about I will be happy for the time been...

What is the next step up from the pinks, sorry for the dumb question just use to all things classic.... And what would they run safely..

Some people have hit 400 on the Sti pinks but hit and miss really, 380ish depending on how rich/lean it's mapped, Pinks are 550-565cc, next step up would be 600-650cc ones, 360-370 I'd guess on the vf36, maybe a little more with meth if you want but they give plenty of torque, too mount will be fine

Don't over work a 36 or 37 - they will choke up and super heat the charge air.

The 36 & 37 is all about mid range grunt - a good set-up could make between 360-370, but that is the exception rather than the rule.

The twinscroll OEM headers are good enough for over 600bhp - been there and done it. They are awesome headers.

Assuming you're sticking with the standard 36 or 37, you'll be wasting your time thinking about injectors over and above the pinks.

If and when you get tired with the VF, have a look at my project hawkeye thread for options on other turbos.

CSF my old hawkeye spec-c RA on the standard vf36 and pink injectors hit 360bhp after mapping and tbh anymore and it was wasting its time it ran out of puff on track just ended up loosing power once it got very very hot, there were also reports of the casing cracking on the turbo's once they were pushed to their limits (Check out Shauns thread from the early days with his) I then moved to a litchfields hybrid twinscroll VF36 this had a bigger core inserted and 650 injectors fitted that produced 415/398 the engine was better midrange and top end made it a good all rounder

@Shaun, what is the maximum boost you'd advise on a standard JDM bottom end?

Thanks guys, great info there so 360/370 tops along with sti pinks will be as far as she will go without turbo upgrade / injectors etc

Thanks for that

I thought that was a decent price new lee? And the H&S stuff is pretty well made.. I'm still learning when it comes to twinscrolls but what are your thoughts on the up pipe too? I know it hasn't got a cat but surely a Harvey Smith (RIP) up pipe would aid more spool

Martin

Ps reading through Shaun's project thread too, sure he used miltek system but then your well into your £££

If you check on shauns thread and on my experience the standard twinscroll headers and up pipes are the best you can get as for downpipe I went for a Miltek decat + full 3inch system not cheap but imo the best on the market at the time

Martin, i cannot really see to many to compare price against so don't look like there are many manufactures of the twin scroll dp.... I was contemplating a blitz nur spec but I remember how loud they are without the baffle in don't think i can live with it again so going for a hks hi power system this time...

I'm in the same boat as you all I no is classics all this Newage / twinscroll malarki is new to me also so learning as I go along....

I think scoobynet needs to set up a section dedicated to twinscroll so all the info is stored in one location just a thought

I think your right lee great idea... Trying the search button for twin acroll doesn't bring much back.

Blitz is loud although I'm sure on a twin scroll it'll be quieter, that's what I read.

I was contemplating decat down pipe, de res centre section with a.sti genome.... Mines is completely standard
