Dump Valve
Can anyone please explain exactly what a dump valve is for? Is it actually any use at all?

Jumping to conclusions here everyone. Are you on about dump to atmosphere or recirculation. Your best bet is to google it. All turbo cars come with them but because you said dump valve every here will think your asking about atmospheric and this is why you get stupid answers

Ok I meant the atmospheric (noisy) ones as I was unaware of there being other types? Is there an advantage to having one which sounds like this?

None whatsoever, they just make a noise and they can cause running problems. Your best sticking to the oe one or if you must have bling, get a recirculating one.

As above if your car is standard then you already have one its a recirculation type. Which is the best type especially on a standard car. I however have a very modified car with a front mount intercooler and I like the chavy sound of the atmospheric dump valve so I have a forge one. No benefit to be honest would be better on a recirculation type but I'm running mafless and I wanted a smoother inlet pipe so I decided on a pssst type lol. I'll be a hated man very soon

Blank it off completely. You'll get a nice noise that way lol..
Have been looking at doing the dump valve delete but I could pretty much guarantee my turbo would **** itself after a couple hundred miles - would be just my luck lol

What is the crack with the dump valve set up on a Turbo-diesel, it's something I've not looked into aside from seeing a few posts down the years saying VTA's have to be electronically controlled?

I only edited the post because I posted an honest question and got three sarcastic remarks which were totally unhelpful, so I figured simplifying the original question may encourage more mature answers

Questions like this arise time after endless time, so the answer is here somewhere. All you have to do is use the search function and you'll find what you need to know.
Whatever else you hear or read, there is a valid use for both types of DV, plus the 'hybrid' dual action types.
If it's just for the noise then a VTA will pump up your chest unquestionably.
A recirc DV will be of more benefit performance wise for normal street applications.
However when you start running more serious boost levels of around 1.8 bar and above, the OEM valves have a tendancy to leak so some people, like myself, will opt for a dual action DV which operated as a recirc for the most part, but when the going gets tough has a secondary VTA port.
If you are tempted to blank off your DV and go for the flutter sound as is mentioned above, you first need to assure yourself that your turbo is fit to handle the back pressure resulting from closing the throttle at full boost and not having a DV to divert it. Failure to check could result in fairly expensive repairs being required to your turbo or even the engine if it fails big time.
How's that?

It did get me curious at the time if a little bit of injected petrol is beneficial between shifts when running temps are high. (Due to the cooling properties of fuel)

You need to go with the dump valve
Tracksuit bottoms with white socks that cover the bottoms
Trainers oversized
Gold chain from argus and maybe a couple of sovereign rings too
Mum /dad /funny tribals tattoos ( from magaluf special prices when drunk )
Halfords regular customer discount card
Lots of stick on tat
Stickers ( bubbling and not straight)
Stick on roof vent ( PM fat thomas for good prices and fitting instructions )
They are really good and will help for long term scooby ownership
( engine will go pop so the few classics left will be worth more )
Think that's it untill page 4/5
