Default Been to look at a blob sti - need some help ...

Hi Folks,

I've been for a quick look at a Silver 04 plate Sti this afternoon (local car sales forecourt just down the road). It looked lovely, FSH, decent body work, looked clean underneath, remapped to 332 BPH, 80K on the clock, cambelt changed etc. Needless to say this was a very brief look so a more detailed look and test drive will be required if I am to pursue this any further. On starting it up from cold I noticed some vapour coming from where the red arrow is located in the picture below. It disappeared after 20-30 seconds or so and didn't reappear on starting the engine a second time some 10 minutes later:

Please forgive my ignorance but what is the big metal shield where the green arrow is ? Any ideas what this vapour might be and what else I need to look out for in general ? Must also add it was a cold day today (just in case that helps with diagnosing the mystery vapour?)

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Thats just the turbo heat sheild mate... Dont think the turbo would of been hot enough if you started it from cold to heat up any moitsure and cause steam around there

That's the turbo heat shield buddy... The vapour could have possibly been some moisture burning off the heat shield... I'm no expert sure someone else will be along to help...

I'd guess that some water dropped off the heat shield (green arrow) and onto the down pipe from the turbo. Somebody with better knowledge than me may be able to point to something else. Edit. to slow already mentioned

Sorry, the pic is of my WRX - I didn't think the dealer would appreciate me taking pics. It was red on the one I went to view.

Yeah, it had all of the above and the Sti fog covers and wing deflectors too. I'll see if I can post the link to the auto trader ad.
