Just filled up in Thorpe Bay esso garage and had to put up with some poxy 15 year old kid with a big mouth asking me,

"Ow much 'ave yah ad outta yaw car, mate?"

"got 110 from me dads one!"

Does everyone get this or do I just attract these people?

Had something similar by 2 teenagers at a tyre place when I was getting my wheels rebalanced.

Remember drooling over fast cars myself when I was that age. Completely envious that my dad didn't have a car like that.

So, I take that sort of interest as a complement. Usually exaggerate like hell just to make them even more envious

Don't complain about it... he could have been nicking your wheels or going down the side with a set of keys.

Paul has a good point, I just answer the questions and enjoy the fact that they recognise and respect the car. I have never had anything other than interest, admiration and respect for the car from anyone who recognises it as what it is. People who don't recognise it will most often just ignore it completely. Which is nice.

I once had a returned to a carpark to find a whole cub pack amassed a round my car. It took me the best part of 20 minutes of questions before I could finally get into the car!!!

My neighbours kids kept asking questions and pleading for a ride. I eventually gave in and now the're Scooby nuts. They have posters, video games and buy all the rally mags. They even wash my car for me for a minimal fee.

hahaha - I agree Ro - just cant help it!!! If I had a quid for every small child thats sat behind the wheel of my motors Id have about 15 quid - which would buy me a new erm.. dunno - what can you get for a car which only costs 15 quid?

My girlfriend is lucky enough to commute to work in my STI (she has a small journey to my 80miles).

Returning to the car she found an elderly couple looking at it (both with walking sticks). They both wanted to know what it was and how fast it went. The old man even asked if it was a V8?

DavidG, A Fiver buys me a weekly ZipWax, alloy clean and interior clearout. The kids spend about 2 hours doing an imaculate job and never skip corners. They also completely refuse to wash their dads Merc, no matter how much he offers them - ha-ha-ha-ha!

In Birkenhead they're more likely to say, "hey mister, what's the best thing about your car?" and while you're explaining the joys of 4wd, ABS, 280 bhp etc his mate has swiped it :-)

My brother went to a Man Utd match at old Trafford, parking his car some kids wondered over and asked "Fiver to look after your car Mister?"

"No, its OK, I've got a good alarm system" Replied my brother.

"Put out fires aswell does it Mister" came their reply.

I agree with Paul, most kids who ask are genuinely keen on cars....many times have i wound down my window to calls at lights saying "go on Mister, floor it"...or "that car is wicked"....one schoolgirl walking past me in traffic even nodded her head in "respect"......these kids will walk past your car and admire it, not walk past and run a key down it or lean their bike against it.

I was like that when i was a kid.....most of us probably were....

The day I got mine I pulled up at the traffic lights in Crowborough where I live and within moments the pub window opposite was full of about 10 people all staring.

The brother in law was with me and was highly delighted as he drinks in there.

I was once stuck at traffic lights and was "gobbed at"! The CPN in the car with me thought I was about to assault the charming fat teenager scum bag Rotherhithe boy.
Counted to 10 and drove off instead.

INCREDIBLE! What a coincidence! I was in the Embassy Club in Manchester about 10 years ago and, would you believe it! The exact same thing happened to Bernard Manning! Nearly the same word for word! Only I think he was talking about a Rotweiler in the back.

I've just spent my first complete day as an owner of one of these "interesting" cars. I can't beleive the amount of attention it's aroused..It is almost intimidating. My wife tells me I will get used to it.....I wonder.
Driving a Ford Scorpio estate never caused such problems.

seems like admiring glances are standard. last weekend I was out with the wife as we walked back to the car we wathced a couple take a long walk round (fearing the worst at first I was ready to shout and give chase, but they were just looking)

Anyway, the point, does the std MY00 alarm key fob have a panic function which sets the noisy bits off ? I thought it did but can't find out how ?

I think you just hold the button down for a couple of seconds and it acts like a panic button, although I have never tried it.

A little while back I parked my car in the Paddock Wood high street at school chucking out time...

Error.

Had to wait until they'd all gone, really didn't feel like coing through the usual 'how fast...' routine.

High amused by a group of school girls walking past it another time (same place) pointing at the back and all saying 'Sooobarooo', followed by 'I want my bloke to have one of them' run away...

We were all kids once, perhaps slightly more eloquent and a little more humble in our approach, but that's another issue. If they're interested in your car and not being unpleasant, I see no reason to patronise or aggreivate them. They're only giving you *ahem* "props for ya wheels"

I once had a man who must of been 40 odd years old approach me at the forecourt and ask me if I had a dumpvalve on the car!! It's difficult not to be sarcastic under such circumstances I will conceed!
