Default wiring dashboard cam

I've brought myself a dashboard camera which comes with a cigarette lighter plug but also comes with a hard wire option.

To me this will look a look nicer and I won't have to have it sticking out the lighter the whole time.

Where would you suggest is the easier and best place to hard wire? It will have to be something that will power as soon as the car is on and then turns off when the car is off.

Just wire it into the back of your cigarette lighter wiring and will power on and off with the key, nice and easy to get to as well

Oh really? Which is the easiest route to run the wire there?

I have just put mine straight down the back of the gauge pod(which just pulls out and the same if you have the pod with clock fitted),then i just cut a bit out underneath(not from the pod) for the wire to sit nicely and not be trapped when putting the pod back.

or if you dont want to go that way and your lead is long enough just run it around the dash or around top of headlining trim etc depending on where you are putting it as have dash cam in my van and have it at top of screen but also works fine(from where my road angel is on car).

Be careful the plug doesnt have a resistor to bring it down to 5v, my mate fried one as hardwiring it will be 12v.

How big is your camera ? The one i got fits behind reverse mirror,co cant really see it when in the car.
I've run the cable under headlining, down the A pillar, behind the speedo, and connected it to the clock.

Its quite small, I located it behind the rear view mirror, ran the cable down the pillar and cut into the intercooler spray button. Literally took 5 mins and works a treat!
Thanks all, will start uploading videos to my YouTube so you can see my daily encounters lol
