I used to work with a ex - traffic warden and he used to help people get off with paying parking fines. On one occasion he got someone out of paying because the traffic warden wrote the colour of the car down incorrect, it was a blue/green colour, the log book said green but the warden put it down as blue.
It was some years back now so not sure how it works nowadays.

Ask them if they can provide photographic evidence.
I once received a nip through the post, I had been accused of reversing my vehicle in to a one way street the wrong way.
The number plate on the nip was mine, but luckily there was a photo of the vehicle it was supposedly attached to.
I rang the number and explained that not only had I never been anywhere near London at the time, but it is impossible to reverse a motorcycle (goldwing aside) and the picture they had provided was of a mercedes sprinter van. The van did have a similar number on the plate but it had been mis read.

Worth an appeal, or visit Pepipoo.com
I had a PCN not long back for failing to display a valid parking ticked. I went on line to view the photographic evidence ( Council carpark) and there in the collection of photos of my car was a picture of my car displaying a valid ticket
Mailed to appeal, got a call within 24hr saying the PCD had been cancelled as the parking attendant had sumitted evidence I was in the right

Don't ignore the council though. They have different powers.
There is a great website about the legality of these, and from what i can remember, I may be wrong, but they have to prove you are the driver of the car in court, which they evidently 9/10 never can, nor do they wish to spend large sums chasing a £60 ticket, because if they lose, they will have to pay court costs.

Great page, dosent give you and the answers in black and white as they want you to subscribe, but you can find the answers from the information they give, so you know what questions to ask

Rubbish. You can ignore them, they will send plenty of threatening letters, and then eventually go away. Due to living in London and every space either council or private owned, I have had about 15 PCN's from 'Private Companies' over the years, none of which I have ever responded too. Lots of threatening letters, then eventually they go away. You just have to have the cahoneys to deal with recieving the letters

This is actually correct. Watchdog did a bit about it last year and pretty much said the same as the above. 99% of people will pay when they start getting threatening letters but if you stand your ground and ignore them they give up.

It's from the council and according to their website they have pictures which will be uploaded at some point today!
No real getting round it with pictures then I guess....
Thanks for the links too -Useful websites to know about!

Nope, they won't even bother because they, unlike 99% of those who they threaten, know that their PCNs' need to be classified as Contract and you have no contract with them by not responding etc, it's just void in court anyway...

Council one with pictures. So figure that even though the make is wrong the photographic evidence can't really be argued against.
Paid.
Thanks for the help guys and clarifying what I can get away with!
