Default How many cats does my PPP have?

2003 WRX. Is it worth me buying an STi up pipe? I'm sorry, I'm not clued up on just what the PPP exhaust has or hasn't got!

Pretty sure has 3.
Uppipe 1
Downpipe has 2.
I've changed uppipe on 2 wrx for the stI one.
If your not looking to have car remapped then only reason to change uppipe is to remove the cat which may in turn break up and ruin the turbo.
I've completely decatted my wrx myself and I've just got a few things left to do before remap.
Things to do for most power etc are.
Fuel pump.
Air filter
Sti uppipe.
Decat or sports cat downpipe
Straight through middle exhaust section.then remap
Completely transforms the car and can pick up exhaust parts 2nd hand.
Justin.

I will remap if I change it. I'll stockpile a few bits then do them all at once.

I thought it had just one sports car on it so there you go.

Why would a decat STi uppipe damage the turbo?

It does have 3, I changed my up pipe to an Sti one as they can break up and send the bits into the turbo - which isnt good.

You will need to map out the sensor at least, so as you said, best to do a few bits at once; I did: up pipe, sportcat, exhaust, TD05, topmount, injectors together.

Then an Andy Forrest remap - I was pleased

How does the TD05 spool on that setup?

I understand now re the cat breaking up. I thought he meant removing the cat would damage the turbo, which made no sense!

I'd be careful driving round with a full decat without a remap. That's going to be right on the edge of what the ECU can trim for.

Has anyone just smashed a cat out of their stock up-pipe/downpipe to save money?

I have the same set-up, spool is noticeable about 3500 on mine but before I put the sports cat on the car wasn't lively until after 4000rpm.

Hmm, I think for me I would be better with a TD04 hybrid as I tend to blast through 3-4k then change gear in the majority of my normal driving.

I don't know enough about the different turbos to know what else is suitable for quick spool and mid range punch.

I very rarely take the car past 5k.

If its a genuine ppp wrx then it has two cats. 1 in uppipe and 1 in downpipe the 2nd cat after downpipe cat is replaced with bypass but the heatshielding remains so it looks like 2nd cat is still present

That's exactly what the exhaust is like underneath the car.

I thought that was the case with the sti downpipe but thought the wrx still had 2 in it

the STI ppp get a prodrive sport cat in the downpipe, no uppipe cat & no 2nd cat
the WRX ppp gets single std cat in downpipe, 1 uppipe cat & no 2nd cat

2.5's are different again. they just have the std 2 downpipe cats in both wrx & sti & ppp variations

I've just re-read this after a long while. Somehow I'd totally missed that part about the WRX PPP having a standard downpipe cat.

Is that definitely right? And is there any way of confirming which it has? I keep seeing the Prodrive sports cats for sale and thinking "don't need that" lol.

Will buy one if this is 100% the case.
