2014 JDM WRX S4, 2.0 LITRE
#2
The new WRX S4 is now available for sale across Japan.
Simultaneous with the S4′s unveiling in its home market, Subaru has also launched the domestic version of the current generation WRX STI. Unlike the STI available in Australia, the Japanese STI features a 227kW/422Nm turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and a driver adjustable centre differential.

It will be perceived that the Japanese are again getting the better deal because of the STI's twin scroll engines and their suitability for very high power builds, and the known fuel savings of the DIT in the S4 but that is hiding from the real issue imo.
If the 2.5 did not have the head gasket issues associated with it (e.g. had been built properly in the first place) the majority of people happy with a sub 400bhp output would be singing its praises instead of criticising its known faults.
On paper this new engine in the S4 looks like a good one, but until there are reliability figures to support the desirable technical specs we are simply speculating.

Emissions is probably the answer to my question but putting that to one side why dont we have these cars in the uk, and not just the wrx but the sti with a manual?
Do you think that no matter what subaru were to offer up to the uk the market has gone I suspect that even a mid to high 300bhp car with paddle shift or manual priced at low to mid 30k would still get bypassed for ze germans.
Image is everything these days and I think until they can change that engine issues are the least of there problems.
