JDM and UK differences....
Aye up lads, been a while since i posted so hope your all well!
Iv just bought my self a JDM V8 STI in aspan white.
Now the one thing that i cant seem to find answers on is why are the JDM and UK different in so many way?
Why does it have the equal headers over the un-equal and twinscroll etc? Why does it have DCCD on the 03 model and the Defi style guages.
Why the hell is the indicator on the other side?!?!?!
and why is the IC tank under the hood rather than in the boot?!
I do love the power fold mirrors though! lol
But yeah, why are there such big differences between the models as it must have taken a lot of time effort and cash to develop the uk version and the Jap version
Help appreciated!

Yes the JDM is leaps and bounds in front of the UK. as i sold my 03 V8 UK STI to get the JDM.
Just cant work out why there so different, i understand they are designed for different markets, but there are just strange changes... like the indicators being on the other side.... why would that be a design change?!

Well where to start.
Higher revving engine, rear wiper, quick rack steering (GL model not KL but if you dont have the dccd then its a KL anyway).
Twin scroll turbo and the engine is around 80% different (some internals/turbo etc).
Better power band, power comes in lower and carries on to around 6.5-7k effortlessly.
Equal length manifold is better for torque.
More electric goodies (mirrors for instance), rear wiper (except the Spec C).
BBS alloy wheels were an option, not on the UK cars.
Needs a higher ron fuel as they are mapped for 100 ron minimum, NEVER run it on 95 ron unless you want a big bill for the engine.
There are more differences but i dont have the list handy

Welcome to JDM ownership, we are the Elite.
The JDM is far superior, you're asking questions as to why the JDM is better?
Wouldnt you of researched this before paying the additional premium for a JDM?
The main difference is the Twinscroll setup - reduced lag, faster spool, higher rpm redline...a faster point to point car.
Did you buy this from Cheshire Performance or the one on eBay?

The question that i have is why are they so different. I understand the differences but i dont understand why they are so different there like 2 different cars.
Im proberly not wording it the best tbh.
It was the one of ebay mate. Went and viewed it yesterday and left deposit. Absolutely immaculate it is. 33k on the clock 100% standard, other than an exhaust. ideal base for a project :-)

No i understand the differences, the twinscroll equal headers extra bits and pieces etc etc hence why i went for the JDM. I was tossed up between this and a Spec C to be honest. But went for the JDM as to be honest i know i couldnt touch the spec C, Id have to keep it exactly the way it is....

I believe aside from certain countries needing different emissions, safety *****, that in laymans terms from what I am told by my Japanese Karate teacher is that the JDM market is more 'exclusive', they demand more for their money and like things to be more 'special' than the ones shipped elsewhere.
So they get toys, and better equipment. But the one thing that struck me aside from electrics and engines was the actualy drive of the car, its completely different, it feels more like a classic than UK spec. Its probably the stiffer suspension for the spirit level Japanese mountain roads
