Cycle carrier to fit classic with mid level spoiler?
As I'm trying to use my Scooby as much as I can I also want to use it for driving out to my biking routes.
With the mid level spoiler fitted I'm wondering if people here use a rear mount carrier? It only needs to carry 1 or 2 bikes as 1 will go in the boot.
Any suggestions on specific models/brands rather than simply go to Halfords?

Be interesting to hear peoples recommendations on this, I've a low level spoiler on my gc. Was considering going roof mounted but would like to see what other folks are running.

I'd always favour roof bars and roof mounted carriers. I've seen the damage done to cars by ill fitting rear mounted carriers and I wouldn't have one. The other PITA is once on you can't get into your boot. The only decent ones are those that mount onto a tow bar.

I have to agree with Graz. I would avoid a rear mounted one, at least a cheap one! I speak from experience where one failed on me years ago and dropped 2k of mountain bike in the path of the car behind. It was very fortunate that a serious accident was avoided and I also managed to get the mountain bikes replaced on my home insurance. Thankfully the assessor was happy that I had fitted it correctly and one of the mounts (plastic!) had sheared off. I would never touch a rear one again!

Roof bars and decent cycle carriers. Don't mount on the boot, they cause more drag, strangely and you use more fuel, plus you have no boot access.
I used to mount FOUR on my roof, pedals off, one or two handlebars turned 9-0 deg, they fit easily.
Tip: if using those where the cycle stays upright with wheels in, zip tie the front wheel to the bars that support the downtube, the whole thing is then rigid. Carried mine at over 100mph on a private track.

Yes, and no.
First fit with genuine Subaru bars is difficult. After that no probs.
And VERY solid once fixed! Mine came with four locks too. Ebay might turn some up. If not, or if in a hurry, dealer should be able to supply. IIRC the original bars were made for Subaru by Mont Blanc.

Tow bar mounted rack? Pshaw.....don't do it. You lose access to the boot again, plus can get damage from contact during the voyage, even between bikes.
Plus due to the lever effect, the bikes further from the car weigh more than those close to.
It would be last on my list....and I fell for it too!
