Massive Scooby Newbie
Hi,
I am completely new to Impreza's but have always had a love for them.
I'm going to do something that will have plenty of you hissing and ready to pull out the baseball bats, but.. I am a Ford Puma freak the most.
Ive made plenty Ford Puma's in my time, but I'm looking to take a Puma shell and complety fit it with the muscle of an Impreza. Quite an undertaking if I may say so myself.
Being completely new to the Impreza, Im looking to see if there is any basic information online on specifications and dimensions of all aspects of the Impreza.
I also have to choose which model to go for and it would be great to hear any recommendations you might have on this. Early thoughts are to not take a 40 grand Impreza and pull it apart, but something like a 98 WRX STi Type R.
Being the pedigree it has in rallying, I'm also open to using components used on the N class or WRC class cars if viable, and would also be very interested to know if there are common problems with the cars, how to rectify them or if there are standard components that just really need changed for aftermarket or uprated components.
All your informative comments are most welcome.

If you have a good look through the project threads then you should find a Subaru engine fitted to a atv, its not much but thats all I've got.
I found this as well.

You could go utterly bonkers here or keep things relatively sensible, even if it's not a very sensible thing that you're doing
My suggestion would be to get the running gear from an early Bugeye WRX as you'll be able to get them pretty cheap, and drop the gearbox and engine in too.
You could get a more durable six speed box if you're after more power, but with that comes expense and weight. Engine wise a 2.0 WRX engine can be quite safely taken to around 300bhp, and a 2.0 STI engine around 450ish. Would avoid 2.5 engines for revving they don't have the same character, though for road use they drive nicely.

Personally I would use an early version classic RA. Generally cheaper to buy than a type r, make sure it has the standard closed deck 2.0 block (which be perfect for a decent spec engine build), has a the short ratio gearbox, alloy arms etc. Then when all stripped, the shell will still be worth decent money to sell on as it is lightened.
Some good info regarding RA's on here...

Just my 2ps worth. Look forward to seeing the progress.
