I was looking into these, but ended up discounting them because of the crank failure stories.

Crank failure caused by manufacturing fault ( silicon getting in oilways IIRC ) and affected engines built 2007 to Feb 2009.

Engines built after this should be ok.

picked up a 60 plate 2.0D RX from Colin Appleyards in Huddersfield - well pleased with it, full leather interior & aero pack, with only 14k on clock. good to drive although the gear stick seems a bit vague when changing gear.

Next is a trip to Litchfield to have their stage 1 boxer diesel tuning package.

Yep I did the same and moved from a 2003 black STi with Prodrive pack to a 2010 WR Blue 20d RC. I miss the STi but not the times I go to the garage now to fill up. As for the gear stick on 2.0 Diesel, mine is very notchy when cold and okay when warmed up. Do get the odd clutch judder in the cold from start off in 1st, but have had this with all of my Imprezas I've owned in the last 12 years. Other problems I have had with this car have been;
Lost the front drivers headlamp sprayer and found out that the hard way that you just cannot buy the top part

Front Passenger side Brake caliper has been sticking on occasion and had to get it freed up.

Fuel consumption is hit and miss. Get around 36 MPG to 44MPG depending on how the fuel computer feels.

Warm start up problem when stopped for 5 minutes and engine turned off.

Passed issues now fixed via a ECU update by Subaru; Hesitation and chugging on occasion when the DPF was recycling. This was a pain especially when you were going for an overtake, which in this car takes more planning and thrashing in 3rd.

The gearbox in my legacy diesel was very notchy when cold, especially into 1st. There is a type of oil that you can use to make it better, will find out as sold car before I tried it.
