Default I want a scooby but a virgin

I have owned many fast cars in my 30 years of driving - but never an impreza

I want a blue or silver - preferably hawkeye, but open on that

and it must have good reliable power - not a monster, but sti / ppp level at minimum

but as never had a scooby I havent a clue what I am looking for (I am clued up mechanically in general), even though I have read write ups etc. there are so many specs etc.

where do I start

cheers
David

If your looking at a hawk, be well aware of the head gasket and the piston problems,

While they drive great they can have a minor down fall,

The late blobeye s are regarded as one of the best

IMO, blobeye 2002/2005 is the one to go for either a PPP WRX or an STI, both very reliable if regularly serviced (plenty of oil changes) decently quick, handle very well with some cheap easy bolt on mods and lower tax band.

Which one to go for depends on budget and intended use, I opted for the WRX Wagon PPP because in my opinion it's the best daily driver of the lot, enough get up and go, doesn't rattle your back teeth, practical, very reasonable on fuel when driven normally off boost 30+ mpg, lower tax band and I prefer the longer ratios of the 5 speed gear box in pretty much all situations.

Only down side is the brakes are shoite especially when pushing on, but mine came with a set of AP racing 4 pots so not an issue for me.

Also keep an eye out on pistonheads too. I tend to sway to cars already modded as it's a money that I don't have to spend but I also understand the reason to buy a standard one to see the evolution of your cars power increase.

I just bought a wrx300 - was looking for a ppp car with good service history and no mods as figured if done by ppp then serviced to schedule it should give me a good starting point - the difference of ppp to non ppp wrx is night and day - the ppp ones are immensely fun just as they are - a great starting point

Spot on - I have just got into them at 56 and have no idea why I left it so late. Blobeye '03 PPP point and shoot and the best fun you can have for the money without question. You won't regret it, but as scoobyskool says, get as much recent service history as you can, and if PPP make sure it's certified as such. There are enough about between 5-6k, just have 1k spare to get your preferred mechanics to give it the once over. Check
of my pick up from Cardiff back to Essex in April this year.
